JetBlue: Can They Go Back To ATL?

Seeing how Delta is in a worse financial position now than back in October (based on how they have to delay the expansion of Song), can they afford to keep JetBlue away from Atlanta? I was thinking that since JetBlue has a huge customer base in NYC, then they could start a few daily flights to ATL from JFK.

I really hope that JetBlue doesn't give up on the city. It's ridiculous that an airline can't fly to a destination that it desires to serve!

Any comments and feedback is greatly appreciated.

Why did you open this can of worms, it is only going to be how DL ran B6 out of town, or how B6 could not make it work, or how loyal DL frequent flyers are to DL! And the strong B6 supporters will chime in and say (rightfully) that B6 did the right thing and cut there loses, the DL supporters will chime in and tout the fact that DL fought and won the battle. Yes they can go back, will they? Only David can answer that question.

The delay of the Song isn't a great indicator of the health of the airline. I would relate it to the CEO change. Until the pilot talks progress some more I would be very careful reading into any moves DL makes.

Regards to your question, Sure JetBlue will be back to ATL. The market is too large for them to ignore. I'm thinking once the EMBs come on line they will be back with a mix. I'll bet some JFK and some South FLA flights.

Can Delta do it alone? The answer is no. However, there is one piece of the puzzle that has not been mentioned in this thread yet: AirTran. Delta and AirTran combined offer an abundance of flights to any potential JetBlue market, and the prices of these flights are pretty low due to AirTran's presence. I don't see JetBlue entering ATL for a long time, the market is pretty much covered between AirTran and Delta.

No, they won't! It doesn't want flying with Southwest & ATA to ATL either. It is too overvcrowded into the ATL airport and this is very busiest hub with DL & FL.

Southwest is a definite no into ATL...Herb even said it would be a cold day in hell before they fly to ATL. Plus, there is no room for them to get 2-3 gates next to each other.

ATA is a different story. For starters, they only need one gate, which would allow them to do 3x daily ATL-MDW service. They should be able to get this one gate, so it shouldn't be a big deal. I think there is room on Concourse D, and maybe even an open gate on the T concourse (I'm not sure on this one) where they could fly out of.

For those in ATL, the selection is going to be rather limited. At least AirTran flies to many of Delta's major markets, and there is America West to get you to the West Coast cities. However, I don't see much more LCC expansion in ATL unless the plane has a large A on its tail.

Eight flights a day, and five of them operated by Delta Connection, one by Song, and the two mainline flights feed Delta's flights to Europe out of JFK. Maybe once B6 starts getting the Embraers they'll think of returning to ATL. But in reality, the ATL-NYC market is already saturated, which explains the use of CRJs on the route.

When I was in training, ATL was brought up day one. Dave and Mike Barger actually addressed the issue. Jetblue was actually making money in ATL, but not what was predicted. When Jetblue announced the expansion into ATL, DL of course added frequencies, and AirTran wet leased A320's to fly the LAX market. This totally saturated the market, and management at JetBlue decided to take that aircraft and deploy it into another market that more money could be made. It makes sense. The question if we would be looking at ATL in the future, and the answer was most likely yes, when the 190E is in the fleet. So, I think that we will be back in ATL soon..

I hope they go FLL-ATL, ATL-LGB/OAK, and ATL-LGA/JFK. I think they can make money and I know they will have MY money on the FLL-ATL route.

I like jetBlues plan, enjoy the airline in general, and want a change from AirTran and DL!

When JetBlue started LGB-ATL service, they had 3 flights a day. They dropped LGB-ATL to a single redeye and added a OAK-ATL redeye as there had been a large number of OAK pax transferring @ LGB until the ATL flights.
