I was wondering why the 747-400 Mixed version didn't record more success with the airlines ?
It should be a profitable aircraft, isn't it ?
Yesterday I wa in MXP and I had the chance to come close to the Air China 744 Mixed which was packed full of cargo and pax.
Here in Europe, only KLM is flying the 74M-74E.
Which other carriers do have them ?
Is an ER version available ?

BY the mid 1990s, the Combi aircraft simply went out of style....traffic was growing, the use of hubs was increasing and airlines had no problem filling up a 747 with passengers, thus combi services were dropped and airlines went back to flying dedicated freighters on key routes. Scheduling is difficult on Combi flights, the most convenient time for a passenger flight is rarely the most convenient time to move cargo, thus many airlines, such as Lufthansa, BA, SN, SQ, SR and QF discotinued their use of the 747-200Combi and had no interest in acquiring he 744 Combi. KLM is one of the few that still has many combi flights on its 744s, and I think Evergreen (Tapei) whose parent company is a major freight and shipping company, in another 744Combi user, along with AC as mentioned.
