Anyone Interested In FLL Spotting

I’ve been thinking for a while that it might be a good idea if we got a little better organized. I’ve been hanging out at FLL for over 40 years and I really love the place. But recent changes have taken some of the fun out of it. If anyone in Broward County would like to get together informally and do some spotting/photography on a semireguler basis and at the same time show the airport administration that their are people that do what we do then get in touch with me. huskey8@mindspring.com

Huskey8,

I was out at FLL this afternoon, it was quite a change from the usual 09 take-offs as apparently the wind shifted and the take-offs were from 27. I've been here in Florida a month and just yesterday I found out that the "viewing area" even exists. Also, I met a old chap that is here from London and he says he spots at FLL every winter. He used to work at LHR until last year as a baggage handler and now is retired. He has this huge booklet with all the rego's he's spotted over the years, the man is a great connoiseur, but he's not an A.net member, although he says he's heard of it because of the huge photo database. I suggested that he join and share the love. We decided to meet tomorrow after lunch and chat some more. Wanna come??

Anyway, I don't have a problem about meeting out there from time to time. I'm supposed to fly home (CCS) next week but I should be back in a couple of weeks.

Let me know!

Luis

Hey

i have only been to FLL once and that was for a flight conection to Nassua. I found there was great spotting from the gates of course. But also from the outsides of the terminals. Just hope to go back again soon.

I'm driving from TLH down to Coconut Creek, so if y'all are going this weekend, I might be able to join in.

What sucks about the A/C viewing area is that every single time the code goes to Orange, or elevated, they close it. It sucks! Any other viewing areas? What about from the parking garage? Anyone spot from there? I've seen some people spotting from US1 South, I wonder if you get removed from there by police?

Guys,

I don't know about other places but I've been told that the viewing area is the best place to be without being bothered. I'll be there tomorrow maybe over the weekend also. If anyone is planning to be there just let me know....

Richard,

tried e-mailing you but the thing just bounced back. It says the delivery failed. I should be out in the FLL viewing area tomorrow (Friday) around 3pm, I'm driving a Burgundy Hyundai Elantra, just in case. Hope to see you there.

All others,

Let's try and make one big happy A.net meeting in FLL sometime in March depending on your schedules. Let me know!

Yes, but keep in mind that right after it goes down to Yellow. The baricaids are removed.
How many other airports can you list that do that, Most that have done such things have just kept these areas closed.

As for a meeting, I'm all for it. Assuming that I have not landed a job with a mainline I'll be there for sure.

YV136C,

Theres a 90% chance I'll meet you at the Viewing Area at 3 today. Look for a silver truck blasting ATC.

This sounds like a great idea. Don't live that "far" from FLL.

Shucks! I spend so much time down there and yet I wont be there in March. We have a vacation condo in Aventura, which for you locals, you know is not far at all from FLL.

Ive never spotted at FLL but really want to!!!!

Huskey,

I wasn't planning on going out today until take-offs go back to 09. It gets kinda boring to see the planes already in the sky by the time they reach the viewing area, besides, weather's so crappy!
Let's see if we meet next week.

OH MY GOD. You guys! FLL is my stomping grounds! You need to watch out every time the Sheriff gets his underwear in a twist they close the viewing area. Do you know how to get to the viewing area? From 95 get off on Griffin Road and head west. Then turn right at the first light ( the Huizenga Animal shelter is on the other corner). Then drive and when you get to the first light turn right and youll be heading up across a tiny bridge and you will descend into the airport. At the intersection turn left. At the next stop sign turn left. Take perimeter road and when you see the first little to the street that takes you into the Animal shelter turn right and youll be in there. Maybe Ill contact some of you when Im at home. I love FLL!

26 Huskey8 : NP Luis just let me know what day and I be there that goes for anyone else here Im always up for spotting.
27 USAFHummer : My summer dates for being available to shoot at FLL (and possibly MIA) are around August 5-August 12...more details to follow on that, still a bit ear
