Why do Airbus and Boeing jets have different thrust reversers. I know that the engines used by each manufacturer tend to be different, but they are made by the same engine manufacturers (GE, P&W or RR), so why the difference? Is one design better than the other?

Airbus thrust reversers seem to 'open-up' the engines and the Boeing ones 'slide open' the engines.

Actually, it depends more on the Engine type, rather than aircraft type...

I always love seeing an AA MD80 land because these metal flap things flip around when the engines reverse thrust....It looks like a parachute!

I am talking about the right aircraft right?!  Confused

BA747400, yes, I think you're right - it's the same on the 737-1/200... I love that parachute-analogy you mentioned... Big grin

Also the engine manufactures don't make the thrust reversers/nacelle assembly. Rather other companies do. Here is a link to one if you're interested http://www.hurel-hispano.com
