hey all,

well it looks like HA is now approved to fly from HNL-SYD or at least on the verge of getting the goverment approval to fly since they now have the air fares published now. hers the link just in case anyone is interested  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hawaiian Airlines Announces Introductory Fares to Sydney

Special Airfares for Bookings Made by March 31

HONOLULU - Hawaiian Airlines announced today it is offering special introductory airfares for travel between Sydney, Australia, and Honolulu, along with Hawaii's Neighbor Islands, and the eight Western U.S. cities served by Hawaiian, subject to government approvals.

"We're offering an unbeatable travel deal between Australia and Hawaii, combining a great price with convenient departure and arrival times, our award-winning in-flight service, and the best on-time performance in the industry," said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and chief operating officer.

Dunkerley added that Hawaiian's introductory airfares are the best value in the market. Roundtrip airfares for flights departing Monday through Wednesday from Honolulu to Sydney start at $755. Flights departing Thursday through Sunday start at $825.

For travel originating from the Neighbor Islands of Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii's Big Island with a same-day connection in Honolulu, the roundtrip airfare starts at $855 for Monday through Wednesday, and $925 for Thursday through Sunday.

Roundtrip airfares from the six West Coast cities Hawaiian serves – Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego – with a one-stop, same-day connection in Honolulu start at $902 for Monday through Wednesday, and $951 for Thursday through Sunday.

The "West Coast" fares are the same for Hawaiian's service from Las Vegas and Phoenix. however, southbound itineraries originating in these two cities require an overnight layover in Honolulu to connect to the Sydney-bound flight. Return flights to both cities will make same-day connections in Honolulu.

The introductory fares are valid for bookings made by March 31, 2004, as long as travel is completed by December 31, 2004. Tax is not included. Hawaiian’s inaugural flight will depart Sydney on May 18. The first return flight departs Honolulu for Sydney on May 19.

Hawaiian will fly four times weekly departing Sydney on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 9:30 p.m., and arriving in Honolulu the same day at 10:55 a.m.

The return flight will depart Honolulu on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Sydney the following day at 7:30 p.m. Sydney is 21 hours ahead of Hawaii and travelers will cross the International Dateline.

Hawaiian will fly the new Sydney route with its Boeing 767-300ER wide-body aircraft. The twin-aisle, twin-jet B767 seats 252 passengers, 18 in Business Class and 234 in Economy Class, featuring the comfort and convenience of a 2-3-2 seating configuration that offers either window or aisle seating to 86 percent of the passengers. Flight time is approximately 10 hours.

Customers can book flights via the airline’s web site at HawaiianAir.com. Reservations can also be made by calling Hawaiian toll-free at 1-800-367-5320 from the U.S. mainland or Canada, or through any professional travel agent.

In Hawaii, reservations can be made from the Neighbor Islands by calling toll-free at 1-800-882-8811, or from Oahu at 838-1555.

Hawaiian has received permission from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Australia to sell tickets for its new nonstop service to Sydney, and is awaiting Australia’s final government approval and issuance of an international airline license.

There was a thread concerning the speculation of this new HA route about a month or two ago.

I guess they see a market for this route eventhough AC and QF already have flights. It does have its merits:

1) Direct routing to & from the neighbor islands

&

2) Direct routing to & from the US mainland west coast cities

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Ansett leased some 763s to HA?

I am a fan of HA and fly them regularly inter-island as well as transpac. Seems they are branding the domestic F cabin as J for their flights to SYD. Ok, but how does it compare to the product that is offered from AC and QF, both experienced long haul carriers. HA has no IFE system, no footrest, etc. in their "Business" class. Has anyone heard anything about the actual cabin service and amenities being offered in J on HA?

Please post if anyone knows the answers to my questions. I want to see HA make it on this route, but I hope they know what they are up against.

It has nothing to do with plane leases since Ansett Worldwide is headquartered in Seattle. However, I do recall the Australian government or media wanting more options out of SYD to the US. Then the state also wanting more flights as well. The timing of this flight will allow connections to and from the west coast giving more options for mainland travellers. Also, AC is supposed to be changing the HNL stop in their YVR-HNL-SYD flight into a tech stop and not pick up any pax.

is the AC flight daily? With that flight not picking up pax in HNL anymore, there will no longer be a Star Alliance carrier servicing the HNL-SYD route. Interesting....I remember when UA stopped flying HNL-SYD, people would fly to LAX just to pick up the LAX-SYD trip in order to be able to still get the mileage.

Will the AC return SYD-HNL-YVR also use HNL just as a tech stop?

It appears that the YVR-HNL-SYD route is "under review". At the moment, and as of July, AC is only selling seats on AC033 between YVR & SYD. There is an inhibit sale on local traffic YVR-HNL & HNL-SYD and vice versa.

Ultimately, AC would like to offer non-stop A345 service ex YVR, but that topic is addressed under another thread regarding AC's A345's.

Personally, I'm surprised, as AC offered the only DAILY non-stop service between Hawaii and Australia. It always was a good seller, but as usual, must have something to do with yields.

There was another thread about AC ending TPE-YVR and it was also mentioned that AC33 will not carry local traffic between HNL-YVR/SYD during the summer.

Technical correction: HA has IFE (In-Flight Entertainment). What they don't have are PTVs (Personal Televisions).

As someone who has flown first class on HA many times, the 763s do have footrests. They also offer free alcohol and either a 2 course (brunch) or 3 course (lunch) meal, which is then followed by a dessert. I believe they even have a second meal service for their PHX flights, which would also be on the SYD flight.

I'm very happy for Hawaiian Air, especially during these times of discord. HA was one of the first airline I flew on... Imagine that, HA will be flying be trying to fly to every corner of the Pacific Ocean. Next stop, Japan? It didn't work out before, but if HA pulls through...
