I came across this rendering for the new Laguardia Airport Control tower which is awaiting Federal Funding, supposedly Bush might ax it from the Budget.

Why couldn't they have built a "unique" looking Tower at Newark too, instead of the "cookie-cutter" they just built.

Looks like it's right next to the parking garage for the Central Terminal Building.

With the budget crunch the FAA and the DOT have been placed in and the total reorganization of the FAA, I dont see this happening for years.

But you never know.

A shiny new tower will do nothing to help decrease delays and help resolve the issue of airspace congestion. The FAA should scrap the tower and spend the money on airspace and procedures redesign in ZDC and ZNY to better manage the traffic flows. One place for the cash to go, aside from a new tower, could be to split up sector ZDC50 into two or three smaller sectors. This would enable the same amount of traffic to New York but instead of one controller handling all the volume three controllers would be working the same volume in a smaller sector.
