I've only been there once and that was almost six years ago now. I dont remember it being open to the public to visit, but do remember you could view much of what was there just by drivng along the roads bodering the perimeter fenceline. Also, there was a parking lot near one of the large hangers with good viewing as well. I remember seeing more DC-10s there then I'd ever seen before or any time since. I recall they were primarily ex UA and CO aircraft being converted to freighters to FEDex.

I just visited GVR on Friday 2/27. Visit cactuswings.com for great information on getting there and driving around the facility. (Big thanks to the Terry at Cactus Wings for the info!) We were on the north (or west?) side of the field and got to within 100 yards of the fence before having to turn back due to rain. But I managed to get off a few great shots. Follow the directions to Estrella Parkway per Cactus Wings. We parked at the end of this street and walked on a dirt path/road over to the aircraft. We didn't venture into the airport grounds, but they may be worth a look see. Have a great time if you go out. Its worth the trip! Lots of MD-11's, five or six UA 777's, A300's, 727's, 747's, etc.

Last year I was granted a private tour from the maintenance company (can't remember the name) with a golf cart. The only setback: No pictures!
The perimeter fence is great, you get really close to the action. Always a good try is to walk through the terminal to the apron (usually they don't ask any questions as a lot of pilots have there aircraft parked on the GA apron.
You can get close shots of their stored B777 on the left side of the apron.
