Northwest serves a number of long haul destinations from Amsterdam Schipol airport. However the destinations served, and the aircraft that serve them are frequently changed. Many of the destinations have been swapped with KLM over the past few years.

These are the only ones at present that I know for sure.
Please add any if you know of them.

DTW - 3X Daily - A330-300
MEM- 1X Daily - DC-10
SEA - 1X Daily - DC-10

DTW is 4x daily right now if I'm not mistaken.

Don't forget our friends at MSP with 2 flights.

NWAFA, I believe the third flight will be the KLM MD11, as I don't think they'll have 4x daily?

does anyone know what aircraft will be flying the 2 extra summer frequencies to DTW and what aircraft fly to MSP and JFK (I assume they will be all DC-10).

NW once flew to MIA, IAD and EWR, but KLM now flies those routes. KLM once flew to MEM but now of course NW does. Does anyone know as to why these changes occured?

The MSP flights are on the DC10 until next year then will change to the A330.

The change from KL to NW on the MIA, IAD, EWR was due to aircraft size. Example the 767 would fill up and only go with 90% on the DC-10.

Thestooges, the 2 NW flights to MSP are on DC10s, while the 1 KLM flight is an MD11.

Following the few jumbos that comes to MSP. NWA used 747-212B MSP-AMS routes last fall. The DC-10s are always a sight to see but there are already HNL and LGW flights. I hope they bring back the 747-200's to MSP this summer and fall but I doubt it with the extra KLM MD-11 flights.

Also, IAH - served by KL and CO. Seem to remember them recently adding a couple of weekly frequencies to their existing daily 747 flight.

NWA also served PHL-AMS N/S. I don't remember when they stopped it though.

NWA stopped flying PHL in 1998 I believe. I used to fly it. Loved that trip. It was a 6 day trip. EWR AMS PHL AMS EWR. NYC has some awesome crews !

PS. IP One of the DTW flights will be on the DC10 for the month of April.

Will be interesting to see whether NWA is going to fly more routes to AMS now that KLM has to give up 90+ flights a day in order to meet EU regulator demands for Air France taking them over...

CV63 (Ken Cheung),

I think you scared the B742s away from MSP with you're crop in that photo. Just kidding. But seriously, a B747 does have four engines not three like that top right photo.

That crop was my artistic interpretation that the 747-200 could fly on three engines.  Smile

I didn't realize there were so many B742 purists in here. So here...

Congrads on getting the whole plane in there. Much better (except for being of center, but hey, I'm not that good either).

BTW, being new to the forums I don't know if you got the memo. Please keep the plugging of your shots to a minimum. It's not necessary to put for photos up, all yours, in one post. Thanks, the management.

It was 11/99 when the PHL-AMS route was cancelled after losing 30 million on that route.
