Many Airports now have listed the provisional passenger figures for the year 2003. I have collected these datas and since ACI is always late with it's publication, I post my Ranking.

By airports where are no figures are already known at this time the rank is estimated from me at basis of the figures from year 2002 and the estimated change.

* The figures for PEK are not very shure. I have the information from this german airport news site: http://news.airwise.com/stories/2004/01/1073897617.html

** Manchester reported in January a passenger volume of 20 million passengers, but on the website with the annual statistics for 2003 is named the data above. I think the reported 20 mio. are from january 2003 to january 2004 (included).

If someone has informations about the missing figures, it would very nice if he/she could give me the informations here ore if somebody can speak/read chinese it would be nice if he/she could scan the following websites about annual passenger reports.

Tokyo HND http://www.tokyo-airport-bldg.co.jp/topics2.html
Fukuoka FUK http://www.fuk-ab.co.jp/
Shanghai http://www.shanghaiairport.com/wzdh.htm

I got in this moment the datas of SFO. Unfortunately I can't edit my post. In this case I give you the figures in this new post.

SFO 2003 / 29,313,271 / -6.79 % / Pax 2002 according HP 31,450,168

In the Ranking SFO fell down to rank 22.

What's about SFO? In the year 2000 SFO handles 41,173,983 passengers. This is a lost of nearby 29 %. Any reasons apart 9-11?

Thanks for the stats Munich!

B.T.W. Would you know where to find the stats for airports ranked 75 to 100. Do you look on each airport website... or do you have another website?
In particular I'm interested to know the stats for JNB. Their website (www.acsa.co.za) is useless , I check regularly and they update it once a year at most

Welcome SAA-SAL!

Yes, by the rankings from 75 I have to look almost every airports website. With JNB I have the same problem like you, especially because www.acsa.co.za provide no annual report. Their reports are beginning in the middle of the calenderyear.

Last Year (2002) JNB ranked by ACI on place 81 with 12.743.545 passengers and a change to 2001 was 8.1% (behind Oakland, CA (OAK) 13.005.642, Washington, DC (CA / KDCA), USA - Virginia">DCA) 12.871.885, Manila, PH (MNL) 12.811.915 and Sao Paulo, BR (GRU) 12.804.091).

CA / KDCA), USA - Virginia">DCA had a growth in 2003 to 14.223.123 (+10,50 %), OAK round about 13.600.000 (+4,6%). MNL and GRU at this time is unknown.

At least relating to CA / KDCA), USA - Virginia">DCA and OAK it will be difficult for JNB to overtake them.
May be it can pass Shanghai, CN (SHA) (13.705.378 in 2002) if SHA had a lost of passengers like PEK (round about 10%) because SARS and MNL at the same reason.
