Hi Im new here and was just wondering what the rest of the world thinks about Qantas. I chose my name to be associated with Qantas as I really think they have improved a whole lot and have really been pleased with my experiences with them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I had the pleasure of flying Qantas LAX-SYD-CNS-SYD-LAX in 2002. I enjoyed every aspect of the trip.
Flights were on time, FA's and ground crew were exceptionally friendly, food was great, BIZ class seats were extremely comfortable. I even got to see one of the 7474SP's days before it was retired. Hopefully I'll get to fly with them again soon. I've flown BA, AC, SK and even SU internationally and so far Qantas is my favorite.

Not sure what you mean by new image, Qantasflyer-their corporate identity certainly hasn't changed-same livery for quite a long time now, since the early 80s, and it still looks as just a good and classic. Unless you meant their new uniforms?
If you were to ask me this question a few years ago, I would have said that I thought that whilst our national carrier had a good reputation for safety and technical operating excellence, it's service and product were lacking in many ways. Not the worst, but certainly not the best.
You are right however, in that as recently as 1 or 2 years ago, Qantas has transformed itself. Not it's 'image', but in their product and service standards. theres been alot of discussion on the boards recently about the loads and loads of money and upgrades they have spent in all 3 classes, in new planes, in service culture and also PTVs, new lounges etc etc-the list goes on, pretty much every aspect of their product has been overhauled in some way so much so that it is a very different airline compared with 4 or 5 years ago.
It is an airline with alot of style and a very strong brand identity, hence, it has many passionate fans...it also has plenty of enemies who remember the Qantas associated with crap service in the 80s and 90s; but these people probably haven't flown them recently.

Flown QF- LAX-SYD-LAX, BNE-MLB, MLB-SYD, PER-Ayers Rock-SYD, and Longreach-BNE. (some segments on Qantaslink) (Over the course of several years, 1997,99,00,02,03)
I have found there domestic product a step above anything we get here in the states. Breakfast on short hops, like my ride from Longreach to Brisbane, on a Dash-8. Or a hot dinner on SYD-MLB hop (well in 1999 don't know if that changed)
The international is great as well. I would say their inflight product is getting as good as SQ, but not quite there. I like QF "onQ" IFE. And the staff are really what makes this airline. I have had some of the most friendliest, laid back F/A's on my flight.
I even like that video they show on landing in Australia, that goes "I still call Australia home"
On my last international QF flight back to LAX, I was talking to one of the F/A's, and he told me that the crew's hotel is all the way out in Pasadena! That's a far drive from LAX!

QF are great on both longhaul and shorthaul (although one hears disturbing rumours that their legendary shorthaul service is being somewhat diminished by costcutting !). I have always enjoyed QF, their crews are friendly and chatty, they are pretty much always spot-on on the ground too, and always willing to go the extra mile.

I'd agree that Qantas is a great airline, flown them a couple times between LHR-SIN. The service was excellent, but the only thing that I didn't like about Qantas was their biz-class seats, they could use flat bed seats like BA uses. Flew BA on the same route once and those flat seats made a world of difference.
Every takeoff is optional, but every landing is mandatory.

RonE - May I say how much i enjoyed your trip report. Well done.
It is so refreshing to hear such positive comments about what I believe to be one of the world's best airlines.
Qantas is (according to it's website) the worlds 11th largest airline. Indeed it is not perfect and at times service at Qantas is simply not good enough. That said, it's important that we pay due focus to many of the successes of Qantas, inspite of certain serial-detractors.
For an airline in the current international aviation market to make such a huge net profit AND to invest millions and millions in product development and improvement is in my books - a huge success on behalf of qantas management. To them, i say thankyou - and keep up the good work!
I hope everyone who has posted here continues to enjoy the spirit of Australia and the spirit of aviation with Qantas for many years (and flights) to come.
P.S: Cannot wait to fly QF again on QF2 LHR-BKK-SYD on 3 April

Thanks guys Im pleased that Qantas has left good impressions for the majority of times.
JGPH1A while it is true that Qantas, like all airlines in this difficult time are costcutting, I am sure that most will agree that its domestic product is superior and amongst the best - not maybe what it was a few years ago but neither are the prices!
C0737 They are actually in the process of installing Lie flat beds, maybe not as flat as BA but still a big improvement over the old ones.
RonE Great trip report-keep them coming!
I hope that Qantas continues to leave great impressions to its flyers for years and years to come.

I've flown QF last year from LAX to SYD R/T and have flown QF a few times before, it's a world class airline, I enjoy very much flying with them, on top, Australia is one of my favourite destinations and QF gives the traveller a good first impression.
By the way, congratulations to QF for winning ATW's Airline of the Year 2003 award ! Truly deserved.

I'm a gold QF frequent flyer. Reaching gold in discount economy class meant spending over 200 hours on QF planes last year. QF is only my airline of choice due to where they fly from New Zealand. (But I am Australian) Sorry, they are not as good as some fellow Aussies would like you to believe. They have shocking reliablity on NZ domestic services. (only once on time in 20 flights) The food is hit and miss, as are the crews. Some are great, some are poor. The "new" inflight entertainment is not on demand, so not up to the standard of it's competitors. Also my bags have been lost 6 times and my priorty baggage has been last off the plane 5 times.
Still, I like the new uniforms and cabin interiors. At least you know which country they come from now.

QANTASFOREVER I hope you'll be flying in business class. Now that QF1 SYD/BKK/LHR are operated by plane with SkyBed installed. You'll love the seat even though it's a 2-3-2 configuration. With the new lights, seats, meal service, bar, and amenities kits.
Once you broad the plane you'll greeted by a smiley cabin crew member. Drinks will be offered (Orange juice, water, and champagne) amenities will then be pasted out. After take-off you if you like you may order foods. You can order for the morning service as well. It's like room service, eat when you want, when you want it. You may also pre-order for the next meals. Then relax to your comfortable onQ entertainment system, with personal large screen and noise cancellation headset. If you want to sleep then turn your cocoon style seat into a bed. Although it does not reclines flat like first class, when in the air its does seem like its flat. The seat is very comfortable and the pillow is very nice. If you want you may also used the self-serve bar. Don't know if that's still happening due to F/A union concern over safety issue.
I flew on the new SkyBed planes a couple of times. The service and the seat is very nice. Have a good trip....
On behalf of Qantas Airways, thank you for flying with the Spirit of Australia.

Thanks AznCsa4qf744er - you've just made my respected list.
I will be flying J - but I'm not sure how relaxing it will be with two one year olds in tow.
Can't wait to fly Qantas again. My last flight with them was a few months ago on their now defunct Paris service . I could have flown Air France to Singapore via Nice and Paris but thought I'd go the whole way with the flying kangaroo from London with British Airways from Nice to LHR.
