Allegiant launched its new Peoria service yesterday. The flight carried 146 pax out of 161 seats.

Reports are that bookings are over already over 75% average for March flights. Some flights are already sold out.

Also, G4 plans to change the Peoria schedule in May with PIA departures changing from 6:20 am to 9:30am. Return flights will arrive back in Peoria at 10:25pm starting in May instead of the current 5:25am.

This is certainly great news for Peoria. Its nice to see a Md-83 complement the Regional jets and the Air National Guard C-130's fly out of the airport.

Gawd.. I remember when I was parking 146-200/300s at PIA & deplaning ATP passengers!

I wonder if they took up the counter space next to Air Wisky... or the old TWE counter. I know that AWAC gave up 2 counter spaces for Access when they said they'd start flying in... (and they lost a TON of back office space!)

Congratulations PIA, Now Allegiant start flying to Laughlin with scheduled flights!!  Angry

I don't want to book Harrah's to use Allegiant. Though SCY's 738 are sweet!

Remember the rumor I started a couple of weeks ago, Gordon Bethune is retiring from CO to become CEO of Allegiant, another from worst to first! Allegiant needs some new planes too, no offense but I get close to their planes at IFP and a couple of them look bad.

I saw on another thread that Allegiant Air is going to start flying LAS-BIS soon. Is Redding, CA still in the running for service?

Bismarck to Vegas, nice. I wish Allegiant would make a stop in IFP on these routes. I think if they looked into it they would find alot of people want to travel to Laughlin. I mean every SCY flight is packed when it arrives. Who knows. I kind of like the 738. Allegiant's MD-87s would be good for short hops though.

Redding is still in the running as is Santa Maria. SMX appears to have 2 other small prop operators interested in SMX-LAS but both are waiting to see if Allegiant announces service.

They did take over the old TWE counter. I flew in there the day before the LAS service started. I must say that with new management there at PIA there has been an imrpvement with the facilities and amenities at PIA.Next thing to come is a snack bar behind security.
They are now trying to get DL to operate PIA-CVG service started. That may be a bit tricky as Moline has it and it will soon start at Champaign.

Allegiant came at a cost. The airport bought them. They are announcing lay offs at the airport authority soon and good people may lose their jobs.

They've been operating for nearly a week and have not departed on time.

ZASpringboks:
Allegiant did come at a cost, but I think that it is imporant for the airport to grow, and attract new service whenever possible. If the Allegiant service remains at 75% bookings then this investment by the airport will pay off, and in the long run they may end up hiring even more people. On the topic of Peoria I was wondering if NW ever plans on starting service to Detroit. They already offer 2 daily flights to Minneapolis, but I think Detroit service with 2 daily flights on the Saab's would do well.

On time or not, you can't beat the nonstop service to LAS, along with the Allegiant's Package prices. I still think their service is the most convenient and the least stressful. You don't have to worry about missing connections, lost baggage (I would hope...hasn't happened to me), real jet service and low fares.

How much of a delay are the Allegiant flights experiencing?

I've flown Allegiant three times so far and have another trip planned later this year. I fly out of ICT and it's the most convenient service...the schedule is perfect for me.

I just wish Allegiant would bring back the Skyshoppe.

Go Allegiant!!!!

FATFlyer...you seem to know a lot about Allegiant Air and seem to be on top of things. Do you work for G4 or are just a fan? I wish they would restart TVL service again.

Allegiant needs to get some schedules to IFP!! Maybe a little shuttle twice a week to LAS. That would be so cool to hop a quick flight from Laughlin to Vegas, the drive is only an hour and twenty minutes but I hate it! Truckers drive me nuts. Flying their new route from Peoria to Vegas is comfortable on the MD-87? Seems a little small. I am so spoiled by Gordon's 739s!

NW used to offer service PIA-DTW but it was cut. If memory serves it was offered for a few years. Becasue PIA, fo a while, did not have service to warm weather hubs, there had been talk of PIa-MEM service. However, once DL appeared on the PIA scene that talk went the way of the nickel ice cream cone.

NIKV69...do you remember Morris Air? They had regular service from OAK and SJC (don't quote me on this) to Laughlin. I guess it went well. But I haven't seen regular service to that destination since Morris Air and Stateswest Airlines.

The Sun Country and Allegiant Air services to Laughlin is hardly regular.

Wedgetail737,

Yes I remember Morris, Allegiant doesn't have scheduled flights to IFP, just charters for Harrah's. SCY has a decent schedule in and out of IFP but the times are limited and my only choices are really Denver and Seattle. I drove through Denver coming home(it was ok) I am pretty sure I am going to hop a SCY flight next winter to go see the Boeing plant. I think in time IFP will get some more flights, that town is just booming! The way things are looking I may be there full time in 3-5 years.

Wedgetail737,

I don't work for G4. I just follow the company. I've tried to follow many of the small California carriers that have hit the skies since deregulation.

I just use my background in research and competitive intelligence with info from a few personal relationships to piece some things together.

re: Northwest at PIA

There was a Dash 8 trip that flew MSP-PIA-BMI-CMI-DTW and the same on the return.. hellish trip for the crew. I believe that ended in December 97.

They did try PIA-BMI-DTW and then the CIRA Airport Mgr got XJ to put in 2 daily AVROS, so the Saabs were pulled out and CMI lost it's 1 daily flight to CMI via BMI & PIA (we boarded a couple of folks on that flight, btw!)

Re: PIA Airport

I think some skylights or a raised ceiling in the ticket lobby would be fantastic. Downstairs makes you feel very very cramped. Did they ever install the 2nd baggage claim or still the one?

Also, is the business center still open on the concourse?

You would hope G4 would use the planes where they are needed, they run 2 COS-LAS flights and the second is EMPTY every night.

LAS flight have had a string of delays recently due to FLOW into LAS, seems they are back to normal now.

This morning, Allegiant apparently onloaded inbound bags from LAS. What? Well, the last inbound pax to receive their bag was after 7 in the morning after the aircraft arrived at 5:35 AM. The baggage error delayed the aircraft well after 7AM. First impressions are important. I understand there is room for errors when starting new service at an airport, but I am told they are in desperate need of more resources. eg: More personnel and equipment.

I understand airline growth is important for the airport, even if it costs human resources. Forgive me for being hard on Allegiant. I truly hope they succeed.

On the topic of Peoria I was wondering if NW ever plans on starting service to Detroit. They already offer 2 daily flights to Minneapolis, but I think Detroit service with 2 daily flights on the Saab's would do well.

Northwest is getting a third flight into MSP sometime in May, I believe. Will they ever return to DTW? Contacts at NW tell me never.

On an interesting note,

AWAC/United Express used to fly 2 daily BAe 146-200/300s to Denver, 1 making a stop in Moline, the other nonstop. We boarded an average of 55 or so people on each flight.

they dropped down to CRJs and the loads dumped to 30 or 35. After a quick search in my OAG Tables, it appears they axed that flight *eek*.

I'm wondering how Comair is doing on the ATL run....

Yes that baggage handling sounds terrible and really that is a key service and probably the one responsible for the most complaints. If I use Allegiant in the future it will be for a short hop so I will use just a carry-on!

there used to be only 1 bag claim and in order to dump the bags, you pretty much had to do it cart-by-cart. A few years ago (when PIA was in its prime), it wouldn't be unusual to have us (Air Wisky), TWE, American Eagle, and Northwest all lined up to dump bags. We all used to line up our bag cart trains (sometimes 4 carts deep) but I guess all the airline managers came together and did it as a single cart-dump (which we tried to do at Air Wisky, but you just can't do it when you have a 146 at the gate.. the ATPs weren't an issue as you had 2 seperate pits that would fill up only one cart). Then again, this is when NW had 4 flights to Minneapolis and 2 to Detoilet (via BMI or CMI), TWE had hourly ATR-42 & -72 flights to St. Louis, American Eagle had the ATRs to ORD, UFS had the 4 ATP flights to ORD, and AWAC had the 2 146's.

So back in the day, you'd dump your bags from one cart, pull up the next, and so forth... then it took the bags a couple of minutes to get down to the bag claim, which was just a small circular belt.

It really reaked havoc when TWA decided to put 2 DC-9-32s on the STL-PIA run.

From the sounds of it, maybe they haven't been able to fix the bag problems  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Getting back to the NW topic for a moment, I just learned that NW serves the Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington, with flights to Detroit, so I guess that airport being only 30 min from Peoria is why NW has split the flights up as they did.

Allegiant provides the ground crew. The manager is employed by the Greater Peoria Airport Authority at a very handsome salary, I might add. They use the local FBO's ground support equipment as Allegiant has not provided them with tugs or bag carts.

What happens when they are down an aircraft? G4 has no ticketing agreements with OAL?
