I got some good pics of two of the Brittania 763's from the ramp. I won't even try uploading them to a.net but i'll send them over to myaviation.net as soon as possible. The new paint scheme on the 763 sure looked nice in person. One of the flight crew members came down from the aircraft and asked my boss and I what we were doing. We advised him that it's not common to see so many rare heavies here (on the same day no less) so it made for a great photo op.

No pics taken of the 330's, but I saw the first one touchdown on runway 19,which is only 7000ft in length. She stopped with room to sprare, and had an escort to the gate.

A nice day indeed.

Wow. I am sooooo excited. How come when they resurfaced the north/south runway why they did not lengthen it.

I just wish we had regular A330 service.

Has USAir ever brought an A330 to MSY?

why they did not lengthen it.

because not only would extending it require endless environmental studies, federal consultancies, multiple millions of dollars in contracting, etc.... but um, where the heck would they extend it to? Highways and buildings on both ends.

If not north/south, what about east/west. Nothing out that way but swamps. I guess with what we have, the lengths are just fine.

What about A330's by USAir every being in MSY?

I've never heard of one here, but that's a Tom question.

310 is seriously that close to the E/W runway. Wow I did not realize that and I have flown in on that runway tons of times.

Speaking of runways, I have yet to takeoff or land on the new resurfaced North/South runway. How is it?

serioulsy that close to the E/W runway

That's why the threshold is displaced

Runway 10 (landing from the west over I-310 and the swamp) is not displaced.
Runway 28 (landing from the east over Kenner) is displaced 200'+ due to obstructions on either side of the final approach path (too complicated for this thread).
Neither runway 1 or 19 is displaced.

BTW, all 5 jumbos landed on the 7,000' runway 19.

No USAirways 330's in here that I've heard of. Also, almost all runways need rehabbing eventually. It was just 1/19's time. 10/28 gets it next year.
