I will be going to SYD in April. Have flown AC from HNL to YVR on their A340-300 and found the seats extremely uncomfortable. AC's 767 seats were much better on the return flight to HNL. Are the seats on all of their A340-300 seats the same? Didn't care for the recline angle and the fact that the seat cushion tilted when I reclined the back. of the seat. The lumbar support on the A340 was not in the right place for me as well.
Has anyone flown HNL - SYD on QF? How is their service and seat comfort? I have to make a decision in the next 2-3 days.

What about Hawaiian Airlines? They are starting SYD service soon.

Yes. Try flying on Hawaiian! There is a web special, if you reserve online!

AC or QF- that's a bad choice and yes, I've flown both SYD-HNL many times.
I find the QF crew are always grumpy on that sector- I think it's on the bottom of the bid sheet.
As for AC- hmmm, if you could juts get rid of the French Canadian crew who just don't want to be there...
My vote- Air NZ or Air Pacific (yes, you have to make a stop and change aircraft, but AC/QF aren't that good) as Hawaiian's service starts after your departure date.

- AC will be returning to a 763 (ex CP version) on the YVR-SYD route in April if that helps the decision process at all.
- The new J service is rolled out on AC, but not the new Y service yet on this route.
- It's a toss up if the 743 on QF will have the PTV or not - only a couple of them have them installed so far.
- I'm not sure if the same applies from HNL, but the AC flights to HNL from SYD are all on super sales at the moment. (Apparently the loads from HNL to YVR are chock-a-block - spring break or something??)
- AC has the 34" in Y seats, QF has 32".
Can't think of any other pertinent pieces to offer at the moment!!
Cheers.

I have flown SYD-HNL-SYD a couple times, once with AC (763) and once with QF (743). AC was fine, but QF was great. The SYD-HNL 743s are newly refurbished and have good PTVs, etc. I'm slightly biased, but I'd go with QF if I were you -- you won't be disappointed.

I would go with Qantas as they use their B743/744 which are refurbished and have PTV's. Catering is good, though I have never flown this route people say that service is lousy. On all other flights service has been excellent! You wont be disappointed, rest assured it is not worse than Air Canada.
Happy Flying

Were the seats comfortable on the AC 767-300 used on this route? I hated the seats on their A340-300s, as they were very uncomfortable. I was told by a friend of mine that on the return leg from YVR to HNL, I was on a 767-200. The seats were fine on that aircraft. Also, are all the seats on AC's A340-300s the same?

Hmm...if I remeber correctly, the seats weren't anything special, but not horrible either. I'd say they are your average airliner seat, and would be quite the same as QF's, though theirs (QF's) might recline a bit more -- I'm not sure about that, though. As I said before, overall I'd just go with QF; new IFE systems, nice new interior, and, as usual, great service overall.

I am also going to vote HAL if you can delay your trip. They are first class with great aircraft. The 763 are very nice and they have a great web fare for when they start flying to Sydney. If you can't delay your trip I would fly AC. Take care and have a great trip.

QB737- I don't expect great service on AC with Quebec crew- that's the point. And the Quebecois crew are providing the service- pas moi- so that's why I don't expect or receive much.

Guys, please don't forget that as of 3-4 weeks ago, only 2 of the 743's have had the *complete* refit/refurb done. EBU and EBX have only had their Avionics and Cockpit/Systems/Life Extensions done - cabin upgrades were suspended till mid year.
PTV is currently only available in 2 of the 743's, (EBT and EBY) not all 4 of the currently active 743's. While I believe that QF try to allocate the PTV equipped 743's on the longer runs, it doesn't always work out that way. PTV just cannot be 100% guaranteed on a 743 at the moment.
Cheers.
