I was at San Antonio the other day and saw (i) a 747-200 (all white), a (ii) an old Iberia DC-10, (iv) a 747 from some middle eastern country (partially obscured) and a DC-10 again, perhaps private from some middle eastern country.

Any reason for the selection (maintenance?).

I dunno, it's probably all getting interior work/paint/heavy maintenance done at the old dee howard facility? In any event, I plan to go spotting out there on sunday so hopefully some of that stuff will still be around!

I am sure that they will be. Take the road to the Hertz rental car lot and you will see the mid-eastern planes partially in a hanger (I say mid-eastern as they have the saber, palm tree logos on the tail, but do not have any other titles). The 747 is out there as well (or at least was Wed. morning).

Singapore Aerospace maintainence...

The all white 747 is probably an ex-Virgin bird heading to European after a re-spray. The ex-Iberia DC-10 has been at San Antonio for at least six months and I assume you saw the two toned blue DC-10 which is essentially a permanent resident, having been on the field 2+ years...

Thanks, they must do good work to get those birds from such far flung destinations. Nice to look at them all.

You also probably saw the tail of the Saudia Arabian MD-11 (w/ swords) that has been undergoing work for several months now. The Saudis have done business with this facility for over two decades

Hopefully, someone can get the tail number of that 747. I'd like to know which Virign plane that is.

VectorVictor,

You are right, the MD-11 is indeed a Saudi Arabian aircraft and it is funny because I have seen a Saudi aircraft there for the longest time (it's not the same one obviously).
I drove by the white 747 the other day when it was parked near the fence on the road that leads to Hertz but I could not for the life of me find the tail number on it! I guess I just need to check my vision Smile

Cheers,

TLIMA

What's up with the two toned blue DC10 sitting close to 12L? It's been there for months! I remember seeing it when I was a student two years ago!. As far as I know, Dee Howard and other companies do good maintenance and interior work on executives and head-of-state airplanes (near Alpha Tango Flying Services -Hangar Six- and Piedmont South).

hello all, the ex-virgin atlantic aircraft its not G-VCAT, that aircraft is not there anymore, the 747-200 is G-VRUM also an ex virgin aircraft, the saudi arabian MD-11 is HZ-HM7, its the VIP MD-11, the 747SP-21 is VP-BAT, it was the Qatar VIP aircraft (the paint is gone, its all metal) , the Iberia DC-10 is EC-GTB, there is also a NW DC-10 N233NW, and World DC-10 and MD-11, and finally last week I saw the john travolta's 707 N707JT, also in maintenance.
And there are some SW 737 with WL, UPS MD-11 and DC-8.
Cool things in San Antonio Aerospace!!!
