In August 1992, I saw an Aeroflot IL-62 in Montreal. I was wondering if anyone knows:

-would this have been in Dorval or Mirabel, or either?

-how many times a week does Aeroflot fly there and was it any different back then? Do you know on what day it would have been?

In 1992, it was definately YMX, Mirabel airport, as Dorval was not used yet by foreign airlines for long-haul services.

It was in Mirabel. Aeroflot does not fly to Montreal anymore. The only other airline currently serving Montreal Dorval with the IL-62 is Cubana. Cubana uses the A-320 on the YUL-HAV flights but occasionally they will send the IL-62.

Your statement is somewhat misleading and Canadians may not take too well to it. All US carriers have always used Dorval, not Mirabel. For Canada, those are foreign.

I think what FLYSSC was trying to say is that Mirabel was being used for Intercontinental/Trans-Atlantic and Dorval was used for domestic/Trans Border in '92. I can remember when I was younger seeing both Aeroflot and OK IL-62's at Dorval. The little wheel in the tail for balance while loading always fascinated me. Big grin

I am talking in my post about "foreign airlines for long-haul services".
I know US and Canada are two large countries, but I don't any flight from the continental U.S to Canada can be considered long-haul...

JFK-YVR isn't exactly Long-Haul, but it's not just a hop either. And now, BOS-YVR?. On a separate thought- OK used to fly Transborder to YMX, as that flight came via JFK from Prague and that was a IL-62. When did Aeroflot pull out of YMX/YUL? I sure missed that one.  Big grin

Aeroflot left YUL about 4 years ago to concentrate everything in YYZ. My last sight of Aeroflot in YUL was an A310.

As for the IL62, Cubana flies it to YUL once in while. There is rumour in town that the new IL96 of Cubana may eventually come to town sometimes.
