KARACHI: Alitalia Airlines has decided to begin operations in Pakistan as a cargo airline for the first time in history.

Alitalia is also a member of the skyteam alliance, which partners with 5 other prominent airlines.

The airline is now planning to capture the cargo market of Pakistani market by introducing the B 747-200 freighter in Karachi once a week.

Alitalia is interested in the Pakistani market and has plans to further increase its presence in Pakistan in the years to come.

**It seems that they're coming in just in time for the peak MANGO export season where demand for it in Europe-US-UK-CAN is massive. Flights will be nonstop from MXP and not via SHARJAH !!!

Its main competitors (from an all cargo airline point of view) from KHI will be CARGOLUX who send 2 weekly B 744Fs via SHJ/DXB + DHL who send 3 weekly B 727Fs and sometimes AB4s to KHI from BAH. LH will be returning its MD 11Fs to KHI next spring with 2 weekly frequencies each to LHE and KHI.

Can someone explain this news article. AZ DOES NOT HAVE 772 FREIGHTERS AS WE KNOW. IT DOES NOT SERVE ALL CONTINENTS, IT DOES NOT SERVE 290 DESTINATIONS. THIS LINK CAN BE FOUND AT www.aviationheadlines.com

The airline is now planning to capture the cargo market of Pakistani market by introducing the B-777-200 freighters in Karachi.

Something known as a TYPO ERROR  Big grin concerning B 777-200Fs!!!

And as for 290 destinations that may have been the case 10-15 years ago but definitely not now. Obviously the reporter has gotten the wrong info from whomever his source is  Big grin

And AIRMALE...LH has been flying its MD 11Fs to KHI and LHE since 1997-98...I dont remember if it ever flew B 742Fs but AF used to fly for sure B 742Fs via DXB to KHI and had an afternoon departure from KHI for DXB. I think AF was 1-2 times weekly. They stopped its freighter flights in May-June 02.

You said LH will be returning their MD11Fs to KHI from spring, so I read it as either they have quit KHI or are using a 747F instead of the regular MD11, I also used to work at Air France (nice pay, lousy job, horrible colleagues, odd working hours) at KHI airport in 2001, that time they operating 10 freighters a week one was via Beirut, the rest were direct from CDG going onto Taipei, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Chennai, they were to add two more flights but Sept 11th happened, they had to cut down services and staff, I quit three months before this happened after a brief two months of service, and missed out on an unbelieveably fantastic contract termination payoff, too bad.
