Wow...I would've expected a service announcement like this, i.e. focusing on LAX from their regular hub-and-spoke arrangement, from Frontier long before America West. Looks like there's some West Coast market share to be had!

Well I guess we (AS) will be adding more LAX-PVR/MZT flights for the summer now!

I wouldn't be surprised also to see a QX non-stop on LAX-YEG by June

Yowsa!  Wow! I wasn't expecting that much expansion out of LAX, but hey whatever works.

I know the LAX transcons have been doing well, better than the SFO ones, so it's nice that we have added the red-eyes.

Good thing with the Mexico flights is since they are express, there's no real liability with HP, if they don't work, they won't be losing anything. Will be interesting to see how they fill.

Well if the choice is AS on a mainline plane, or HP on a Mesa plane, well it would be a no brainer.... AS all the way.

Flyboyaz...I talked to a friend at HP yesterday. SHe told me the transcon loads here at SFO are starting to pick up. Is that what you are hearing on your end? HP has not done a good job in marketing the flights in the Bay Area. I have seen know signage, no radio, or TV. Hope they come around.

That's very possible As739x....I've been on vacation for over a week now and haven't checked the loads lately. But with the fare sale they had, I'm sure they filled some of the planes..hehe.

We do very little advertising anywhere...someone asked about that in one of our newsletters and they said that the advertising isn't cost effective, so they don't do it. We get a lot of traffic on our website, so I guess they figure that is enough. The question was more directed for the NY area where we aren't as well known as California. But I hope they do well too  Smile

Flyboyaz,
Is this schedule expansion perhaps an indication that US will be moving from T-1? Have you heard anything on your end?
Also, any info regarding which FIS MZT and PVR will use, T-2 or TBIT?

I would guess that HP would use the International Customs and Immigration facility next door at Terminal 2.

Just a guess.

Right! It would make added with their customs & immigration facility into the terminal 2 and HP would not able move any different with the terminal in LAX.

WesternDC1010,
T-2 would indeed be the most logical place. I didn't want to assume, though, knowing that, historically, gate space has been tight at T-2 during the summer months.

Wow good news for YEG'ers.  Smile

It would be nice to see another carrier compete on the YYC-LAX route but I think it's probably saturated with AS and AC duking it out for pax on that route. I guess I'll just have to settle with HP to PHX Big grin

Will America West now consider LAX as a hub or a large focus city like Columbus used to be?

kris,

I was looking on the AmericaWest website - on the route map, it indicates flights from LAX-YYC and LAS-YYC with start up dates showing later this year. Interesting - I guess they have not yet made an official announcement but it looks imminent...finally direct service to LAS, and like you say, more competition on the LAX route.

Hard to believe.

HP has just introduced the third destination to YEG in less than 6 months.

October: PHX
March: LAS and mpw they announce LAX.

They certainly found a niche market out of Edmonton. Good for them!!!

The PHX-YEG loads have been incredible....started as a CR7 and was full now is a CR9 and is full. The LAS flight is already full and it is brand new. Obviously there is a lot of demand up there!

As far as the question about the terminal space, I asked my friend Kevin Trinkle and he said that US is supposed to move over to T6 with UA, they have enough gates to accomodate both. The Mexico flights will use T2 for arrivals then get towed to T1 for departure. Also the Canada flights will use T2 for arrival, but they don't have to...but the bags have to get run to TSA which is in the old TWA hangar.

I was hoping for something outlandish and exciting like LAX-HNL-NRT but alas, they have already failed at pacific ops and aren't likely to try them again. Nice to see them expanding in North America though!

Wow, America West has really taken western canada by storm. Certainly perfect market for the RJ's. It will be hard for Air Canada to take back the passengers once they finally get their RJ's in ??? months/years.
I wonder if HP is looking at Winnipeg?? They could use a non-stop to somewhere warm.

I think the LAX-YYC note on the AWA website route map is a typo. It should read LAX-YEG.
