Hi
Does anyone have any information regarding year 10 work experience at Sydney Airport. Do they accept work experience studnets? and if so who should i contact. Information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

My sister did work experience with Qantas at their base in Mascot - near Sydney airport. From there you may be able to coerce a tour of the jetbase and possibly the cockpit and cabin simulators. But you'll probably spend most of your time making coffee for yourself (so I'm told).

Upside is that QF have a free employee shuttle from HQ to the airport - so you can do lunch at burger king at the domestic terminal and watch planes during your lunch hour.

Qantasflyer...if you're wanting to work "inside" the terminal, I would suggest that you try contacting each individual airline at the international terminal to see if they can help you. QF is usually too big to worry about these things - especially at the international terminal. I'd suggest approaching some of the international airlines directly at Sydney Terminal such as CX, SQ, KE, JL, UA, etc etc.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Phil

If you are wanting to work on the ground or anything like that the answer is NO Qantasflyer. I am also in year 10 and have only just recently asked Sydney Airport for work experience, my mum almost begged them to let me do it but they refused. BUT, I did get work experience in the Control Tower. I am going there tomorrow for an introduction and for them to make sure that I am not a terrorist or someone of the like. It should be fun. But you cannot get anything on the ground, acctually around the planes, BUMMER, is what I said.

Have a go for the control tower, they might let two people do it. When does your work experience start?

ah what It would be like to be in Year 10 again -- sheesh that was so long ago for me

boys I did my year 10 school work experience for Compass Airlines mark I as an allrounder. I got to do boarding, checkin, some baggage, aircraft cleaning, even got to travel on 4 rev flights SYD/BNE/SYD and SYD/PER/SYD ..those were the days .. I loved flying as a supernumery FA in the galley heating the meals that much that I became one !

the only other suggestion is that you try Jetstar/Impulse or maybe Aus Air Express for the freight side

Good Luck !

Me too..... I loved my work experience! Showing my age now (hey 30 isn't that old!) but I did work experience in Sydney at Ansett (check-in, res, op's - even made boarding calls and got to fly on a F50 to Moree and Narrabri!) and Continental (really showing my age now.... loved it did check-in mostly and boarding). Ahhh the good old days! Since then I worked for Qantas and now I work for BA, so my work experience was the right move!

Cheers  Smile

I'm in Year 9 at the moment. So obviously I will be in Year 10 next year.

Akumas why dont you try SQ at PER or EK ... EK is a great airline, I hear they are dropping the 777 into PER to be replaced by the A340 !

Try them out, You can call EK in PER on 08-9477-2799 be nice and ask for the Duty Airport Manager !

Thanks for the reply Industrybuff  Laugh out loud Much appreciated

I'll write down that number.

It would be nice to see a A340 (500? 600?) at Perth in EK livery.

So "Duty Airport Manager" is the man/women to speak to ey?

From the best of my knowledge, SQ has sort of stopped getting anymore work experience students due to 'limited personnel in taking care all work experience students thoughout the year, unless you know someone from administration or management.' (At least, that's what I have been told by a few Australia-based SQ employees, including one of regional managers)

With Qantas, depending on the time you contacted them, in most cases, you have to contact them at least 12 months in advance (esp with customer services and similar kind), but fewer months would sometimes also be considered for certain positions speifically allocated to 'work experience students'.

In fact, many of smaller regional carriers take a lot of work experience students and I personally know National Jet System does have quite a few vacants available for work experience students across the country. By the way, some international carriers DONOT take work experience students at all and I suggest you to lodge your CV or Resume face-in-face whenever you could, because most phone calls & emails would simply get a reply of 'We have no work experience program this year, but we thank you for interested in XXXXX,' when they actually do have programs for work experience students.

Hope this helps in one-way or another.

gidday everyone.. if you are looking for W/E with QF withing 6 months of your W/E starting: forget it. You need to book it in around 12 months beforehand. I strongly suggest you consider the Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service, i did a week there in MEL and it was one of the best in my life. You get a real intro to all that is involved in monitoring the overall safety of not only aircraft but also the infrastructure at airports as well.
cheers

Some high schools (especially the ones in South Australia as far as I know, considering the fact that it is a requirement by SSABSA) do notify students when they are going to get a week off from the normal classess in order to have time for their work experience program at least 12 months before hand...

Just checked with one of my mates @ Virgin Blue, he said they have been told by their boss that NOT to refer anymore student whore willing to do work experience program with Virgin Blue (publicly speaking Virgin Blue does actually not have any 'work experience program' open to general students), the airline doesn't have enough personnel to deal with this thing (even with all those requests and so on).
