It seems that the airline industry (overall) has always been a money pit. Airline stocks never seem to really move (and if they do it is usually down) so I was wondering when was the "golden age" of the airline industry? Was there ever a time that most airlines were making money if so, when?

I am not sure but I think after the 1970s oil crisis, most airlines boomed and became successful after the period of 'depression'.
