from Embraer website...
Embraer today announced that Alitalia has taken delivery of its first EMBRAER 170 in a ceremony held at the manufacturer’s main facilities in São José dos Campos. The Italian airline placed an order for six EMBRAER 170 jets and holds options for another six. Alitalia plans to put the 70-seat airliner into service by mid-April through its regional company Alitalia Express, which flies all over Europe.
“We are pleased with our first delivery of the EMBRAER 170 in the prestigious and renowned colors of Alitalia,” said Maurício Botelho, President and CEO for Embraer. “The EMBRAER 170 is a new generation aircraft design incorporating sophisticated technologies which, with its unparalleled combination of comfort, performance and economy, will translate into tangible benefits for operators and passengers.”
Currently, the Alitalia Group has revenues of about 5,000 million euros and carries 22 million passengers a year. With a fleet of around 180 aircraft, it employs more than 18,000 people in Italy and abroad. In 2001, Alitalia joined the international alliance SkyTeam, which operates more than 8,000 flights a day to 512 destinations in 114 countries. Alitalia first ordered aircraft from Embraer in 1999 and now operates 14 ERJ 145s.
The EMBRAER 170 will give Alitalia flexibility to meet the changing environment of the European market. First in a four-member family of aircraft specifically designed for the 70- to 110-seat market, the jet provides unparalleled cabin comfort for passengers and optimum operating economics, performance, and reliability for carriers. The EMBRAER 170 has recently gained type certification from authorities in Brazil, the U.S. and Europe, paving the way for deliveries to start in key markets of the world.

Wow, they're getting the -170's out there pretty quickly! Within the past week, 2 have been delivered to US, 1 to LOT and 1 to AZ and I think that US is slated to receive another one here next week if I'm not mistaken.

Your right DLMD11...the certification came through and the flood gates opened. They must have been dying to get these birds off the parking lot since I know with the US planes they were build quite a while ago. Wern't they ready in colors almost 6 weeks?
