I am dying to visit the area.. I wonder if it is possible for me to see SMX area by the beach from cruise port area? I plan to take a cruise "Princess" in Sept when the cruise arrives to St Marteens so I want to get off and walk or take a cab to SXM to see all planes flying in ? How far is it from cruise port to SMX? Let me know.. Thanks..

It costs about US $25 for a taxi ride from the cruise ships to SXM... i just did it in december 2003... takes about 20 mins for the ride along the coast.
so worth it! I took princess cruises also, you will have a fun time! remember the best time to visit SXM is mid afternoon... say 1-4pm, that's when the big boys come in to play. also bring yourself an aviation reciever to listen to local tower!

I would walk for a once and a lifetime opportunity!
Tappan(if i may address you as thus) I love your pictures and especially this one, thanks for keeping the SXM dream alive for all. I'm sure a lot of people(especially me) would be intrigued by some tales from the princess (an afternoon of watching, etc) and forgive me if there is already a post about this, but I haven't found one. Any way to get some words from your experience?
I enjoyed your earlier post on runway extension @TNCM, lets hope its not for awhile.
Nice approach symbolizing paradise (perhaps what it looked like from captain's perspective on the approach in this topic's featured picture)
