Thai Airways has orders for 5 A340-600s and 3 A340-500s. Deliveries of the aircraft is scheduled to begin in Spring 2005 until 2010. The A345s will operate from Bangkok to North America, whilst the A346s will fly to secondary cities in Europe. All the aircraft will be powered by the Rolls Royce Trent 500.
Kanok Abhiradee, President of Thai Airways International said, "The ultra long haul A340-500 will open up a completely new market for THAI. For the first time, we will be able to offer direct non-stop services between Thailand and the USA and will have a unique configuration giving passengers extra space and comfort on the long flights."

Okay, that means that the MD-11 phase out start next year. Very sad! I like the MD-11, especially in Thai colours. But the A340 will also look great in this livery. I know, that a member of the royal family created the Thai livery. I think they will keep this wonderful livery for a long time.
