I was wondering if we'd ever get a pic of her.  Sad

I remember this crash vividly. It did not get a lot of press here in the USA. Did they ever recover the bodies?  Crying This was the highest altitude crash ever. I still don't know if this plane was approaching La Paz or had just taken off.

This happened on January 1, 1985. And that year turned out ot be a very bad year for commercial aviation w/ nearly 2000 people ding on airplanes culminating with the December 31, 1985 crash of a DC-3 that killed singer Ricky Nelson.  Sad

From http://aviation-safety.net/database/1985/850101-0.htm

"While descending for La Paz (airport altitude: 12300ft above sea level) the crew reported over Urana-Mine. They were then cleared to descend to FL180 by ATC. The Boeing struck Mount Illimani at 19600ft and was destroyed on impact."

I've read that the wreckage is still there undisturbed.

So what actually went wrong. Again, this crash was in the headlines for only 2 or 3 days. Compare that to say, the Valujet accident. Weeks of headlines.

Were the bodies ever recovered? I've seen pictures of the crash site, so I know someone got up there.
