I was wondering if we'd ever get a pic of her.
I remember this crash vividly. It did not get a lot of press here in the USA. Did they ever recover the bodies? This was the highest altitude crash ever. I still don't know if this plane was approaching La Paz or had just taken off.
This happened on January 1, 1985. And that year turned out ot be a very bad year for commercial aviation w/ nearly 2000 people ding on airplanes culminating with the December 31, 1985 crash of a DC-3 that killed singer Ricky Nelson.
"While descending for La Paz (airport altitude: 12300ft above sea level) the crew reported over Urana-Mine. They were then cleared to descend to FL180 by ATC. The Boeing struck Mount Illimani at 19600ft and was destroyed on impact."
