Hi, I was out on the observation hill at KUL today and saw the LH flight arrive. It was A340-300 aircraft, and landed 10 minutes late at approx 19:33 (by my watch).

Well, supposedly they operated flights into KUL before the summer schedule because of the F1 going on at Sepang. Originally it was to start Mar 28 with a B744 via BKK.

Flights will remain an A343 till then.

Sorry mate... Quite unlikely - not during this age of global alliances!

Any chance of LH bypassing BKK and fly non-stop to KUL instead? There seems to be plenty of demand.

According the Business Times, LH anticipates 85% load factor on this route and if this is achieved, LH will increase its frequency to daily flights next year. Also in the pipeline is to offer nonstop flights to Kuala Lumpur from Frankfurt and link Kuala Lumpur with Munich via Bangkok or Singapore.

i believe the flight was introduced a week or two earlier due to the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Malaysia this coming week-end (prestige kind of thing) but that does certainly not rule out that bookings have been very favorable from the beginning.

It gets better: Sources inside LH says Lufthansa considers KUL service from MUC from 2005 on, options are nonstop, more likely seems a service via BKK or SIN.

I checked their bookings and they are certainly strong for the next few weeks. Interestingly - the bookings seems to be stronger ex-KUL than ex-FRA. Bookings in 'C' seem to be strongest.

Lufthansa has also started selling excellent fares from the UK to Malaysia undercutting , Sri Lankan, Emirates, Qatar (traditionally the cheapest carriers to Malaysia from the UK) and Malaysian (by a long shot).

The latest offer ex-KUL now is that for every F or C rtn ticket KUL-BKK-FRA, you'd get free KUL-BKK rtn on the same class, to be used some other time.
