RDU-DEN In A Regional Jet?

I was at RDU this morning, for my flights back to New York (UA RDU-IAD-PHL, US PHL-ISP), and was trying to figure out what would make UAX/Mesa think to fly a regional jet (UA 7125, UA 7100) from Raleigh-Durham to Denver...I understand that they might want to keep RDU as an all-UAX station, but a block time of four hours in an RJ just seems a little ridiculous...please enlighten me...

Was the regional captained by FlyGirlHels? Was it flying PHL-TXL?  Big grin

I personally don't mind the regional jets. I would rather be on that than a fully booked 737.....

Why does it matter how many seats there are on the plane? An RJ gets you there just as fast as a 767, hell of a lot less pushing and shoving during boarding, and at baggage claim. What's the alternative? A 737 service that isn't profitable cos the plane's too big, so the route is cancelled altogether and you have to fly through a hub where your bags might get lost and the journey takes a couple of hours longer and you have to run from gate 1 to gate 227 at MSP or DTW or ORD?

fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Apparently the RDU-DEN flight is 2x a day, with it originally starting March 4th, and the second frequency starting tommorrow, both with CRappyJet-700's...fortunately, I don't have to fly on those things...I flew a CRJ today for the first time from IAD to PHL, with ACA, and I'd definitely take an Embraer over that piece of sheet-metal...I think in an E-170, I could probably live with a flight like RDU-DEN, but I can't STAND the CRJ...

To talk to the point of flying in an ERJ or CRJ vs a larger plane like an A320 or a 737 I would like to say that the larger plane is more comfortable for those of us who are tall. I personally am 6'4" and on a longer flight often like to stretch my legs and walk back to the lavoratory. On an RJ I can't even stand up all of the way.

But to talk to the point of having an RJ when you wouldn't otherwise have service I would say I prefer an RJ over not having a route. If UA were to start service SDF - DEN I would be ecstatic. They are already all RJ to ORD and sometimes IAD (service seems to come and go).

I like flying the US ERJ from SDF - LGA. No need to get up during the flight, I like the 1 side with the nice leather seats and the comfortably placed windows (compared to the older CRJ's).

If there were an RJ service that could make it from JFK - LAX and also a connecting service on large aircraft, say through CLT, PHL, CVG, ORD, etc. I would take the connecting service every time.

The debate here will be endless and it's easy to take one side or the other based on your preference but I hope I have shown that it's also easy to debate on both sides of the argument.

Regards,
John

Speak of Deep vein thrombosis! Man, though the CRJ-700 is a little bit more roomier, its not enough room for me, especially at 6-2 and broad shoulders. I would prefer mainline. I believe that the flights are an attempt at initiating the RDU-DEN market before Frontier drops in. RDU-DEN was a good market for Midway back in the day, I'm sure it will do well for whoever can provide good enough service.

Why not? I would be a touch long for me,though. My mother in-law just flew them DEN-BNA, and didn't seem to mind.
I'll bet if they didn't use RJs, they wouldn't have DEN-RDU nonstops at all.
