Why did Boeing invest so little in the last 20 years? Well, heavy investments would probably have reduced earnings which, in turn, would have reduced stock price and eventually executives'pay. Since investments in this industry pays off in the very long term, Boeing's bosses had an incentive to cash in on existing products in the short run.
