Some FR News, Including Puntuality And New Route

FR is – once again – in poll position for punctuality, having beaten U2 – for 52 weeks in a row in 2003!

Some people will attribute this excellent punctuality to FR flying into tiny, in-the-middle-of-nowhere airports. Yes, it does generally fly to such airports, but nevertheless its punctuality is better than U2’s, and that’s all that really matters to the average punter who is not interested in analysing airline performance. Do not forget that FR also serves STN, LGW, MAN, BHX, DUB and several other main airports. Do not forget that not everyone wants to go to the major cities, so flying into such airports can benefit people by reducing their flying and travel time. For instance, if I wanted to go to northern Spain and tour by car, it would be easier for me to fly into either GRO or Valla. instead of MAD or BCN. Similarly, if I wanted to tour the eastern coast of Italy, I could fly into Bari or any of the other places instead of Milan or Rome. It can, indeed, be very convenient. And what if you wanted to go from London to Londonderry? Fly into BFS/BHD and go by road? No - fly into the airport non-stop from London. Evidently there IS a demand for such flights, which appear to the narrowminded and igornant to be silly and worthless in view of the location in which they arrive and depart - a location which could seriously aid a trip. It is totally unfair and inaccurate to say that everyone will be wanting to go to the nearest major city, because they don't. So not only added convenience, but also arriving ontime or early and generally flying for very little (there are exceptions, of course).

The airline also welcomed the arrival of its 50th new 737-800, which was delivered on 18th March.

FR announced the commencement of a thrice-weekly Dublin-Murcia flight on the 16th March. It will leave DUB at 1355 (arriving into MJV at 1755) and arrive back at 2030 (having left MJV at 1830). This new route means that a total of 22 are now operated from DUB, and 147 routes throughout its network to 16 countries.

Ryanair also increased its services between Kerry and DUB and STN last week.

Hi Pe@rson,

How much did they pay you?

Just kidding!

Good to see the LCC's doing well.

Or anything.  Laugh out loud

I will absolutely support anything I believe in. And it just so happens...

I haven't flown on FR unfortunately, as they don't serve AMS. EasyJet therefore is my favorite out of AMS and GERMANWINGS actualy is the best in my opinion, but quite a long drive for me to go all the way to CGN, but sometimes it's just worth it!

Possibly all that taxiing at 70mph helps !  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Seriously, Pe@rson, you should get a job with FR's PR department - do they have one ? I expect you'd do a better job than the current slag-off-the-competition-with-The-Sun-style-oh-so-humorous-(not)-taglines lot currently in place. You clearly believe in the merits of FR and their business model (viz your passionate arguments in another thread that all airlines should abandon in flight catering and turn themselves into flying Burger Kings ("Do you want fries with that - its extra")) and seem to enjoy fighting their corner for them - and frankly, for those of us for whom the FR model holds less charm, it's a shame such eloquence is squandered on such a very undeserving object !

Well, no harm in it - and if Mr O'Leary's business is making him tons of money and fooling enough people into thinking they are getting value for money, marvellous - yay capitalism ! Me, I'll stick to my U2 flight that gets me from where I live to where I'm going, even if its 15 minutes late. Yay, consumer choice !

Pe@rson I respect your views/opinions but for me, I'm done with FR and U2 and other cost-cutting/low-service/cheating airlines.
For my BHX spotting I now fly VY and for my LHR outings I fly BD.
On VY I have friendly crews that do not prevent me from taking pictures (got into a lot of arguments on FR concerning empty cabin pics) and I have a meal on BD for prices that are cheaper than FR. And I am directly at LHR

LOL! I've flown BA, BD and other full-frills carriers plenty of times, so know what they offer. I prefer the efficient and cheap (when I go, at least) low-cost carriers, aboard which I have also flown many times. I will never support any other airline more than FR. It's just like being either pro or anti death penalty - you fully support one side.

Pe@rson - learn you will !

I'm sure its not quite as black and white as the death penalty - one can be luke-warm about LCC's and their relative merits and faults. They are after all just a consumer product, like cornflakes and rice-krispies - everyone has a preference, and neither choice is right or wrong. Its just a choice.

Annecy  Wow! ?
So FR is planning to return to Elbonia after all  Big thumbs up
Now that would ne great news as they axed the proposed GNB route because of - heheh - lack of susidies from the Lyon Chamber of Commerce(which operates GNB airport).

Still, people will always support one type of airline over another, and, for me, it's very much those which are low-cost. Many people here support full-frills carriers. But I am very glad that there is choice.

LOL! I have nothing against full-frills carriers - after all, they are only airlines - but if they could increase their efficiency and reduce their prices, I would be more supportive.

FR has announced today (22nd March) that it will commence a new daily flight from DUB to Reus. This new service complements two others announced this week from DUB (to MJV and EMA). All these services will begin on 29th April. Nice to see FR expanding at DUB and offering Irish consumers more choice.

Its nice to see FR expanding and beating easyJet on punctuality! I think the new routes from DUB will be very popular, especially Reus.
