US To Reduce PIT Flights By 100

I have seen only three news articles in the news section regarding this. I also heard it on NPR this morning. But no press release yet?

What is going on? Are these planes going to be parked or moved to PHL and CLT?

100 flights a day is a good number. Anyone know whats up?

Wow... thats a lot... but if USAirways is smart, they will reduce capacity on the PIT-NYC-PIT markets... between LGA and EWR, they are operating over 10 flights a day on big mainline aircraft-- the flights can not be going out terribly full..

I dont believe that is true, they are supposed to be adding 85 flights a day from JUN-SEP in PIT so I have no idea why they would reduce by 100 . If they do it will be mainline flying as US wants to add lots of express flights to PIT (Mid Atlantic/PSA). When they talk about US cutting flights it is Mainline US ,not the express side, the express side continues to grow every month. Leave it to the news to once again tell the people something correct!!!!(actually incorrect).

The above press release makes it sound that way, but it actually twisted the words from this story, which stated 100 flights have been cut since 9/11:

US is not cutting 100 flights at PIT. They are maintaining the current approximately 370 daily flights.

Other media outlets have since ran with this false story.

very true, it is false, good info in your post 670. Thats why I dont listen to the local news that much anymore, they seem to either give you the wrong info or blow somethnig so small way out of proportion that it seems as if the world will end with what they have just told you.

Im seeing this article again today. It seems to imply the cuts will come next month, or at least a route to South Carolina will be cut next month.

This pisses me off. Its the exact same article everywhere.

Is the official word that this news is incorrect?

While this cut may not be factual, it might be predictive. 100 flights sounds like the minimum reduction to come in September. They didn't lease only 10 gates because they enjoy paying a premium on the others.

A close friend who works in US corp. sales says that thier CFO has a planned "talk" with all employees tomorrow and it will "concern families and some difficult decisions..." we'll see what's up then I guess.
