Westin has good views, when you check-in ask for a room with a view of the runway. The Westin hotel has a complimentary shuttle that picks you up at the terminals and will take you directly to the hotel.

To help clarify, the main two long parallel runways at LAX are a quarter mile apart. The Century Boulevard hotel district actually falls between the two runways. The Westin is the only one of the hotels with a clear view of south runway. The Marriott, the Radisson, the Renaissance, and the Sheraton face the north runway. All are long walking distance from the airport terminals. A few, like the Renaissance, offer better viewing from the top deck of their parkade than from their windows. Most offer decent viewing only on one side of the hotel and from their upper floors.

I stayed at the Hilton LAX Gateway hotel and I think you could see aircaft on finals into LAX. I saw a Hawaiian 767 from my hotel room, but it wasn't a very high floor. There are a bunch of hotels right near Sepulveda leading upto the main LAX entrance. Try there...the Hilton was recently renovated and was a very nice room. If you've got a hotel frequent stay number (or not), I'm sure if you request a room facing the airport, they would accomodate you (just be nice about it!)

The Hilton is a great place. Awesome views of the south complex and arriving traffic everywhere. Go to the exec lounge at the top of the hotel and you feel like you're in a control tower. Check it out!
