AA is average, European carriers such as BA and KL are better but I think AA is still better than IB and AZ... I see no problem on the Long-Haul flight but you better buy something to eat at DFW before your flight between DFW and MCO because a small crackers package or "snack" is not enough for the 2:45hrs of flight or so... I you're lucky, you'll fly the ex TWA 757 on the DFW/MCO flight, which I think looks good, better than the AA 757... Have a good trip and welcome to Orlando!!!

On Saturday I flew AA115 LHR-JFK on the B777. I fly this route 4 or 5 times a year and I can tell you that the service is still good and the food is great (I just love the pizza AA gives as breakfast). You will get your own PTV on the B777 with 5 movies and some TV programs. The best seats are 31A and 31J (window seats), so try to get them at the airport (if you are an AA elite, you can get them assigned by calling AA or on AA.com).

Maybe I'll come watch you come in on Monday. DFW is under a lot of construction right now so it's not very visually appealing, but its still a very nice airport-I think you'll like it. AA is average, but you'll only get good service.

If you are real airliner enthusiast, you are probably interested in things like aircraft configuration rather than whether they use 2" or 3.25" stems on their wine glasses.
That said, I believe that your 757 from DFW to MCO is a true AA aircraft, while your return to DFW on the other 757 will be a former TWA aircraft with a much different configuration.
The 777s are very nice, but not spectacular unless you are booked in 1st class.
The 777s board and deplane from Terminal A at DFW, and you can get to all the other terminals via Airtrans (a train), the AA's "TRAAM" (another train), or moving walkways - if you care to spot other airlines while you're there.

Some fairly common themes here. The 777 to/from the UK is always fine, even up the back. Extra legroom is great. Unfortunately, domestic flights on AA leave a lot to be desired. Bring your own food/music/Hoover/smiles...bit different to Europe.

Thats a little wierd that they sent you to DFW to connect. Did you only want to fly from LGW. You could have gone to MIA to connect to MCO. I would have just flown VS non stop. But that might be a little more money. Any Way have a great flight. 777!

You are very lucky to be flying AA and their 777 and the 757's. I love that airline. you should expect medium service on all flights ( the f/a's tend to disappear a lot), good entertainment and pretty good food. The 757-223's never had MRTC. Well, have a pleasant flight on American Airlines.

Thanks for all your help. Flymia, the cheapest option was the LGW-DFW-MCO route, I also find it quite a strange route. The prices with BA or VS were very dear. Even our charter airlines MyTravel, Brtiannia etc were more, and their aircraft are very small inside. I was reading that AA seat pitch is 34" compared with 30" of MyTravel.
I am looking forward to the AA 777, I have flown on AF's 777 before on a CDG-LAX route. Why are AA removing the "extra room" on the 757, will they be doing this across the whole AA fleet?

I just got back yesterday from an AA trip SFO-LHR via BOS. Travelled on the 757 and 777 and I must say that AA are distinctly average. The 757 was very cramped with the new "less room throughout coach" seating and with a window seat you can't see the TV screens. Service OK, they do atleast make a few journeys with the drinks cart so you won't go thirsty.
The 777 was better. I had seat 34J coming back which was OK. The coach pitch varies I think between 33" and 34" (mine must have been 33"!). If you have a window seat the metal box for the PTVs takes up much of your leg room. Entertainment OK, your standard 10 or so channels and a flight map, although no games as on other carriers.
Meal service was good and being vegetarian I was served first and the pizzas are great! Two meals one about an hour into the flight and another lighter meal 90 minutes or so before landing. The one annoying thing is the PTV remote controls are on top of the arm rests and not to the side as on other carriers. In my case yesterday the guy next to me kept falling asleep with his arm on my remote which would occasionally change the channel. Bad design.
If you are used to BY or MYT AA will be heaven - if you are used to VS, BA or even (in my opinion) CO you might be left underwhelmed.
One other tip if you haven't got your seat assignment yet sort it out on the website before you go this way you can make sure you get a good seat as there will be no window or probably aisle seats available at check-in.

I have actually got my seats assigned. I booked my trip through Expedia, which automatically assigned the seats. Just a few minutes ago I have been on the AA website, should have done that before writing on here. I have:
(LGW) - (DFW)
(DFW) - (MCO)
(MCO) - (DFW)
(DFW) - (LGW)
These are windows seats, which is all good. On the AA website, I could change them if I wanted, however, on the way out there are very few seats left by the window.
The last long haul flight I went on was with ATA Direct from MAN to SFB. I can't say the flight was that great. Before that was my trip with AF 777 & 747 which was very good indeed. The 777 being better as it had the screens. I
n 1997 I flew BY, I have noticed they put an extra seat across in their 767!!! Their service was pleasant, and the aircraft had just had its 360 service facelift. I've not flown VS since 1996.

AA's 757s, although now with standard legroom (standard as in no different than any other airline, still better than charters) have video and music programming. So you won't be bored from DFW-MCO as suggested above. Your flight to Orlando from take-off to touchdown should not exceed 2.5 hours, probably will be a little less. And if it's of any interest, you'll get to take a shortcut by flying over the Gulf of Mexico.
AA does not offer complimentary drinks in coach class anymore, however, they do offer free headsets (from Europe). On AA domestic flights, AA headsets can be purchased for $2, not $5 as stated above, and are yours to keep. It is simply a convenience for those who don't have their own headset. You can bring yours with you from the LGW flight and keep it the whole trip, or, you can use your own.
For the poster regarding ORD-LAS, AA currently serves a light meal, the "Bistro" in coach between those two cities. However, starting next month Bistros are being cut on over 100 flights, and my guess is that'll be one of them. The flight between ORD and LAS should not take more than 3.5 hours. There's a large food court between the H and K concourses in ORD so you'll have plenty of options to get some food you might actually enjoy.
(A side note to the Bistro being cut on over a 100 flights... the company is cutting them to help pay for increased meal flights in f-class... to compete with UA's new policy. The company stated the Bistro never met customer expectations and therefore will be cut from all but the longest of domestic (non-transcon) routes. The company is right, they never did meet customer expectations (does any airline meal/snack?); however, I bet there will be no shortage of complaints when they go.)

I have already flown the 777 in the GRU-MIA route. I found it spetacular! The best economy class I´ve ever had! The 757 ( I got it in MIA-MCO) is a good plane too, but not as comfortable (as you might expect).
I would say go with AA! Maybe their F/As are not the most friendly, but you´ll have a pleasant flight for sure!
