I don't know how flexible you are but there are a few sale seats available on Airtran's website, but they probably won't be around for long.
AirTran from ROC - ATL (from their website)
Departing Flight
Sale Fare! $75.00 Sat, 10 Apr 04
Flight 583 5:12 pm depart Rochester, NY (ROC)
7:32 pm arrive Atlanta, GA (ATL)
Returning Flight
Sale Fare! $75.00 Mon, 19 Apr 04
Flight 586 8:55 pm depart Atlanta, GA (ATL)
11:05 pm arrive Rochester, NY (ROC)
Total Cost: 168.70$
Buffalo has the same fares on these days with Airtran. You would be forced to pay 300.00$ to return on the 17th, but it goes down to 168$ if you return on the 19th.

Hey AirplanePeanut,
Welcome! Being a fellow Western New Yorker, I would like to welcome you. Your best bet is to check out the websites like Orbitz and Expedia and see what they can do. Usually there is a good deal. Where in Rochester are you from? I know the area well. Well welcome aboard again.

I am not sure what you mean by any shorter, but most of Airtran's (which is probably going to be cheapest) discount fares are gone because it is within 21 days. Their website will probably be cheapest.
Sorry I couldn't help any more

AirplanePeanut,
As a CSA I highly disrecommend using Orbitz, Expedia, or any of those
online travel agencies because of the chance you may not get your paper
ticket in time of your date of travel or possibly forget to bring your ticket and
have to pay the lost ticket fee and go through the hassles of get reimbursed
from the online agencies. I have seen way too many cases of lost tickets,
tickets not received in time, or customers who thought that they had
e-tickets from the above mentioned agencies and come to the airport to find
out they had to have the paper variety. If you book directly on AirTran or
Delta's websites you can choose your seats on your flights and check-in
online or at a kiosk. With the online agencies you cannot do any of the above
mentioned. Just my $0.02

Wow...I guess I never realised how many people there were from Buffalo around here!
Your best bet would probably be on AirTran if you can afford a couple extra nights. As for looking up flights out of BUF, this last minute near a holiday season, you really are gonna have to be quite flixible with dates, it's hard to get out of this area cheap last minute period, and a holiday season really doesn't help those matters. Good luck with your search!

Nice thing about the Airtran website is that if you wait a day there is usually a new fare sale. Saturday Night the May 20th JAX-ATL fare was $59.00, ATL-JAX $82 Sunday the fare was up to $82 both ways, today for both ways it's back down to $60 each way.

AirplanePeanut:
Seat availability on Airtran in WNY is pretty tight, so when you know your itinerary, you have to act fast. Others have already given much good advice so I won't dwell other than to say Airtran is very good; the 717 is a neat, little ship...a worthy successor to the DC9/Super 80's.

Upstate fares change like the weather....every ten minutes
Aint it the truth...we get all four seasons within the same week.

You can find the lowest fares for AirTran on the internet, I suggest going that route
