Republic reveals order for 12 Embraer 170s

Republic Airline has disclosed that it has 12 Embraer 170 regional twin-jets on conditional order with the Brazilian manufacturer and options for a further 25 of the type.
Republic Airline is planning to introduce the Embraer 170 into service later this year when it begins operating as a United Express carrier; the company has previously revealed that it intends to acquire up to 16 aircraft.
In a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Republic says that it has agreed to provide its various codeshare partners with 46 more Embraer regional jets over the next 19 months.
It says that 34 of these are covered by firm orders with Embraer and that the remaining 12 comprise an order for the Embraer 170 which is conditional on the carrier’s securing “acceptable financing”.
Republic adds that its 25 options for the Embraer 170 could be converted to the larger Embraer 175, 190 or 195 aircraft.

Indianapolis, IN (March 23, 2004) – Republic Airways Holdings Inc., the parent of Chautauqua Airlines and Republic Airlines announced today the order of up to fifty Embraer 170 aircraft. The order consists of thirteen firm aircraft, twelve conditionally firm aircraft and 25 option aircraft. Under the purchase agreement, delivery of the first thirteen aircraft will begin in July and continue through December 2004. All firm aircraft and three of the conditionally firm aircraft will be operated by Republic Airlines and placed into service with United Airlines as part of their United Express program. The total value of the firm contract is $325 million, with a potential value of more than $1.3 billion if all conditionally firm and option aircraft are converted to firm orders.

The EMBRAER 170 seats 70 to 78 passengers. Its unique cross-section provides superior passenger comfort in the form of a larger cabin with maximized cabin width at shoulder level, a wider aisle, larger seats, higher baggage capacity, improved personal space, and increased leg room. Four-abreast seating eliminates undesirable middle seats, facilitates access to both seats and overhead bins. The EMBRAER 170 is powered by twin, under-wing mounted General Electric CF34-8E engines. The EMBRAER 170 has four main doors and offers airlines maximum cabin configuration flexibility for dual class, single class, or higher-density seating arrangements.

By the way, the CRJ700 in United Express configuration is actually only a 64-seater as it has 6 first class seats (37" pitch) and 58 coach seats (at 31" pitch). Mesa's CRJ70's are configured the same. For comparison, Mesa's CRJ900 is an 80-seater (6 First/74 Coach).
E170 vs CRJ700, the E170 seats 78 @ 31" vs the CRJ's 70 @ 31". In dual class, the E170 seats 70 - 6 F (36" pitch) and 64 C (31" pitch) - 6 Coach seats more than the CRJ700.

Ah, ok I wasn't sure if the Dornier had all been retired or not, guess they're all gone now.
As for the B-1900's, well technically they're operated by Great Lakes, who isn't officially a UAX provider anymore, but still.

I love United and all, but UA Express just seems like a huge mess, but I have a feeling that will be one major change when they present their reorganization plans to exit bankruptcy.
Either way, an E170 will look VERY good in UA Express colors, I can see it now...
