Those are covers for various sensors (pitot tubes, etc.), that are normally put on a plane when it is in storage, to protect them from damage. They are bright red so that mechanics will see them and not forget to take them off before the plane flies. All other planes have them, but I guess they're not used that much at the gates, only in service.
