(Adds details, paragraph 3)
NEW YORK, March 25 (Reuters) - JetBlue Airways Corp. (NasdaqNM:JBLU - News) on Thursday said it was expanding service this summer from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as the start of service from New York's LaGuardia Airport has been delayed.
The low-cost carrier said service from New York's LaGuardia Airport would begin in late summer, rather than the spring as previously intended, because of "facilities issues" to be resolved with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Rapidly growing four-year-old JetBlue earlier this year requested 10 slots at LaGuardia, which it characterized as a "token presence", while it discussed building new terminals at JFK, where is carries more passengers than any other airline.
A JetBlue spokesman did not immediately return a phone call seeking further information.
The New York-based airline said it would add new flights from JFK to Denver, New Orleans, Buffalo and Rochester this summer. It plans to operate 35 percent more flights than last summer.
JetBlue expects to add 12 new 156-seat Airbus A320 narrow-body jets this year to its all-Airbus fleet of 57 aircraft and has ordered 100 Embraer 190 aircraft, which seat about 100 passengers each, for delivery beginning in mid-2005.

I am curious to the reason behind the delay.

No need to be curious. The article states that there are facility issues - and they will be resolved by the end of the summer. Nothing that JetBlue can do about it...

As for possible jetBlue routes from LGA, should we expect to see the usual suspects, ie FLL, MCO, TPA?

i'm sure FLL, MCO, and TPA are shoe-in's for possible routes. then probably more expansion out of there once the slot restrictions are lifted for the NYC airports. (can someone please remind me when this is suppose to happen? thanx!)

I would have guess that they would more likely serve PBI out of LGA instead of TPA. It seems that more flights from LGA are to PBI instead of TPA.

Back to the original topic, I also found it rather strange that JetBlue is delaying their LGA services by about 3 months and thereby missing the busy summer travel season. The press release is light on the facts, does anyone have any additional information such as where JetBlue will set up shop at LGA, will they handle their own flights, and what the exact reason for the delay is?
I was under the impression that the 10 slots at LGA would yeild 5 flights, ie, 5 landings and 5 departures......am I correct?

you will see LGA - PBI. there is more of a market to PBI out of LGA than TPA. i don't think RSW is on jetblue's radar for service from LGA.

With just ten slots at LGA running flights to Florida... sorry to say but they'll probably get slapped hard by American, Delta, US Airways, AirTran, etc. Should be interesting.

AAJAXFlyer,
honestly, it'll be nothing new than when we started flying out of BOS and our loads there are VERY good!! plus w/ our popularity in the NY area...i'm sure we'll have no problem filling up the planes w/ passengers, no matter what the other airlines try and do.

Knowing how many people currently flock to JFK just to fly JetBlue, even when LGA is more convenient, I can assure you that JetBlue will have absolutely no problem filling planes out of LGA, regardless of where they choose to fly (although I suspect the destinations will include at least FLL and PBI).

Is that still talking about from JFK-ORD and I don't think so that would not able fly to ORD and because it is make too long delays with both United & American Airlines.

Jet Blue nothing but a over hyped airline.
Thanks for that productive contribution to this thread.
In any event, if that is the case, then AA, UA, DL, etc. are nothing but under hyped airlines. Since "hype" brings in passengers, who in turn bring in money, which would you rather invest in?

ORD is a rumor, but rumors can become true. Its all about slot space. I'm sure southwest will put out a good fight.

Not sure what AmWest meant by "over hyped?" I have flown Jet Blue round trip from Long Beach to Vegas and Oakland. All flights left on time and were a real pleasure. Those "rich Corinthian" leather seats are so comfy and sadly both trips being just an hour, I was unable to check all the channels on my private screen. I will say that the channels I watched were crystal clear with perfect color adjustment. Would be great for cross country flights.
The crew (flight attendants) was young, well groomed and attractive. Also very perky and professional. That alone is not something one finds these days.
Oh and FoxBravo.....Notice the members name is AmWest25. Gee I wonder if he or she might just work for America West? Naw.
