I am currently booked on a mainline fligth from TPA-ORD, but it seems as if they're switching over to TED soon, so I want to be sure that my seat is reassigned and not just bumped.

Any tips on getting someone bumped from Economy to Economy Plus transcontinental?

To get bumped up to Econ +: Pay full fare, and be a Premier Mileagee Plus member

Before I obtained Premier status, I used to just ask very politely at the gate. "Is there any chance of getting a seat in Economy Plus?" 9 times out of 10, they would do it if there was an aisle or window seat still available. If there wasn't, they would be reluctant to fill a middle seat (not that I wanted a middle seat).

I'm using my miles to go business class to Europe later this year, and a buddy of mine is coming along for the ride, but he bought a ticket in Economy. I just wanted to see what I could do to get him bumped up to Economy Plus.

I'll take your suggestions to heart.
