All,

Went to the hangar this afternoon to see the 75th anniversary celebration for Delta. Mr. Grinstein introduced (via large screen TV) the new retro livery for the anniversary celebration. A 767-200 (Ship 102), will be painted in a livery almost identical to the DC-3 that exists today in the heritage museum - but with a stylized "75th Anniversary" logo on the tail. No when on when the aircraft would be rolled out. Will let you know if I hear anything!

Yay! I'd love to see this bird soon... What's the registration on this specific aircraft?

Wait....ship 102 is the Spirit of Delta (N102DA)...it already looks awesome! Why not do that on a 757 or something?

Still......sounds VERY cool. We always needed a retrojet!

Should be N102DA, the 'Spirit of Delta' 767-200...saw it here at LAX last week....they are pretty rare out here! I hope it 'accidentally' shows up out here in LAX again!

I think we should do it on a 738 as well for the smaller stations.

LOVE the idea though

When is this repaint supposed to happen? I saw Spirit of Delta yesterday afternoon @ ATL, going out for a flight, still in the Deltaflot version. It's kind of strange to take an a/c that was only recently repainted and repaint it, why not use one of the 762s that's still in the widget?

I wondered the same thing, why ship 102? But I think it is really symbolic more than anything else. Ms. Escarra hit on that kind of hard in the presentation. She mentioned that she had spoken to Dave Garrett earlier in the day about Ship 102 and what the employees did for the company in 1982

How about an MD-88 for the smaller stations? They're more common than the 738s.

Plus, after all, it IS a Douglas.

I can't wait to see it myself. I don't think a retro would look good on a MD-88. Too long. BTW -- Why do they have a DC-3 flying around when they go and retire perfectly good L1011s.?

We could all deal with a bunch of 757s and MD80s flying around in that livery

N102DA was repainted in March or April of 2002. Not that 2 years is old for a paint job, but it's not a fresh coat by any means.

I heard that the aircraft will be retired in 2006 and at that point will form a centerpiece for a Delta-based museum, but that's just the word from a deadheading First Officer I sat next to last week to CVG.

By the way, I'm watching one of the new animated UA commercials as we speak, and I must say, they are pretty cool!

This might sound like you're reading a United thread but I think it ought to be said...

DL is in no position to be spending money on such frivolous gimmicks! That cost comes off the sweat of all the employees who have had pay cuts!

Wow, that felt good to say! I've read that about UA's cheaper paintscheme about a million times on this board and now it's my turn!

Good ears! I have been wondering when 102 will be retired, and it would be nice if she had the special retro livery to go out with.

I just hope they give the interior a little bit of a boost.

102 has to be getting a little old and drabby on the inside - same for all DL 762s.

It is going to be a Beauty. it was a Good picture of the airplane. Can't wait to see it. The reason it is ship 102 is because it is the "Spirit of Delta" and the 75th anniversary of the airline is dedicated to the People of Delta Airlines. They wanted to do something very special for the airplane. I think it is great. The "Wavy Gravy" is nice on her the "Widget" is better but I think this will most definitely be the best.

It would be nice if Delta Refurbished her interior and kept her in the air and make it the last 767 to retire. She is a great bird and one to definitely be proud of. She is definitely going to be a good looking one when she rolls out.

They will be taking the DC-3 (Ship 41) and the "Spirit of Delta" to as many stations as they can for all the employees of Delta to see and experience. The DC-3 (Ship 41) will be flying out to Los Angeles and many other stations. Delta will be raffling off tickets for a ride in the DC-3 and promoting the Heritage museum.

The ceremonies today were definitely inspiring and made you proud to be a part of the Delta Family.

Hope the information helps out. Hope someone at the Delta TOC in ATL can keep us posted on her progress when she goes into the shop and when she is going to come out. Wonder if anyone can get thier hands on a copy of the picture to post.

It would be very cool if they did the "Fly Delta Air Lines" delivery livery as were on the DC-8's.
Saw the other thread about CO's livery...They're making a profit these days.  Laugh out loud It would also be cool to see a 50's delivery livery on one of CO's jets. Big grin

Yes it would be cool to see the "Fly Delta Air Lines" livery from the DC-8's. I've also got a Delta scheme that I am going to try to make on a photoshop that I think will look really good. I will post it when I get done.
