Well, it was about time for MAS to begin upgrading their upfront cabins. I just love MH. I have flown them so many times and lately began to wonder why they were delaying that much in enhancing their FR/CCL product as the other leading airlines already have.

My best wishes to evryone at MAS.

Regards.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hah, when I saw the topic, I thought it's the news, not a question  Wink/being sarcastic

Well, I hope they will do it soon, like all other big airlines, with First/Business. Luckily, they don't need to change economy, since it's the best!

Same best wishes as XA744, to everyone at this fantastic airline.

I believe MH unveiled the new Business and First class products at their inaugural travel fair held in Kuala Lumpur last month. Unfortunately, it was a closed door launch and the press did not have any access to MH's new product. If I remember correctly, they are set to launch their new products this fall. They are going to upgrade the Economy class IFE to AVOD as well.

I am kicking myself for not bookmarking the manufacturer's site as MAS did release the manufacturer for their new inflight seats... First will feature individual 'cocoons' that is currently all the rage whilst Golden Club may resemble something along the lines of the 'World Business Class' product... (which is interesting in itself - with regards to the KLM cooperation)...

I think the new cabins are due to roll out later this year.

Why have they removed the 777s from their Middle Eastern routes and replaced them with the A330s (at a higher frequency)?

CAI was downgraded from 2x weekly 772 to 2x weekly A332. Perhaps demand wasn't high enough.

BEY was upgraded from 2x weekly 772 via DXB to 3x weekly A332 via DXB. This is about a 130 seat increase in capacity.

Passengers prefer higher frequencies.

Mh does seem to be expanding its network alot, especially to the middle east, and asian destinations. at this rate, wont they need some new airplanes to fly their routes?
according to their site they have the follow planes that can fly to those areas
Boeing 744 - 17
Boeing 772 - 15
Airbus A332 - 3
Airbus A333 - 9
most of these are used on routes to europe, australia and so on, any new deliveries that are coming? short of the Airus 380's in 2008

MAS747 that list is way out of date.

We now have 5 A332s and 11 A333s.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Rumor has it a few more might come this year.

On the cargo side we have 5 from Air Atlanta, and 2 of our own a total of 7. To go up to 8 in a few months!

We are sure doing good. A330s will replace B777s on shorter routes as Triple 7s are now deployed on long hauls and medium hauls like MEast will be handled by the A332s and some A333s to India. However, India does seem to get some B777s still.

New First and Business products were unveiled quite some time ago and first a/c to feature it will be in November 2004. I'd say one of the 2 brand new B772s due from Boeing will be the first ones to see it. Check www.mas.com.my for archived press releases there was one just on the new upfront products. We will also be the first in the region to use the EFB on the flight decks of our B772s!

It is said there will be announcement of fleet decisions around middle of this year too. Involved is said to be B737 replacement and possibly some Embraers or B7E7s, but rumors are always rumours.  Smile

here is the link to the official press release for the new first and business product.

and here is the appendix

and it does seem that they are converting to a two class on the 772's, not enough use of the first class cabins now to justify a separate cabin for frist class.

F class is actually really underutilized, when I flew EZE-JNB my parents who were in F said only there were only 4 people including them in F, the other two being the pilot's children. On JNB-KUL F is full, but from my guess only 4-6 are fare paying pax. I was upgraded.

it does seemed underutilised. i once flew KUL-FRA on MH, with my mom to visit my aunt in hamburg, we checked in at the golden club class counter in klia, my mom is an Enrich gold member, and the guy just said hope you have a nice flight, thanks for flying malaysia airlines, and oh yeah, i just upgraded you from business to first.
The service was great, but it was creepy cause we were the only two in that section, too much attention!!!

but still, do they get that much more pax in First on routes that utilise the 747's? e.g. lax and so on?

I flew the LAX sector. It was quite full in F, but I do not know if they were fare paying or upgrade, because Business and Economy were 100%.

Is the A 380 a firm order OR just an LOI?

The 772s will be reconfigured to 2-class starting around Oct/Nov 2004 and this is when they will introduce the new BC seats. It would still be 2-3-2 seating for about 42 pax and there may be a slight increase in EY seating as well. The remaining 2 772s on order will be delivered around Nov/Dec and will have the new seats installed.

The 744s will start to be reconfigured (FC & BC) about a month after the first 772. Seat pitch will increase but number of seats will decrease slightly. They will be a reduction in EY seating as the BC section will be expanded a bit.

The A380 order is firm for 6. First delivery expected Jan 2007. Seating not confirmed yet as it is still too early. Even engine selection hasn't been made yet.

Thats good news. So where do you think malaysia airlines will fly their new airbuses to when the time comes? is Klia ready for it anyway?

malaysia airlines B734's have been in service for what, 20-30 years? what is the maximum age for these airframes before they really need to be retired. and what Planes are we looking for here, the 7e7 seems like a good choice but the range is excessive is it now? how aout the airbuses and the embraer that people keep talking about? what are their strenghts and weaknesses?

wow wow  Wow!

get your facts right before you speak next time! Although our B734s have high cycles, but they are very well maintained. Maybe interior looks old but they are getting a revamp now. Oldest, 9M-MMA is only 12 years old! Youngest is 7 years old IIRC.

Should they decide not to retire them, our Engineering dept can easily handle these aircraft with high reliability and still efficient for the next 5-8 years. Some even said 10 is no problem.

The rumored B7E7 replacement is NOT for the B737s. It is not even in the same range to be suitable replacements. Rumored B7E7 is for future A330 replacement and possibly both the 7E7SR and LR models.

for those who thinks mh's B734s are 'old':

a long discussion here.
