Hi All,

Finally going to do the 24 hours of flying required to come to Heathrow from sunny Sydney. After screening 1,000's of photos, looking forward to seeing the additional liveries and minimal separation Heathrow provides.
In Australia we're pretty anal about separation. We're unlikely to see the equivilant of this:

...anytime soon.

Anyone out there that could either show me around, or provide some Heathrow hints.

Kindest regards,

Glenn Stewart

The pic caption is a bit sensationalistic. At LAX you will see two lines of the same lenght on any given day. And it's probably the same at ORD, JFK, CDG and so on.

The separations are fine. 1 minute, as timed from my balcony.

You should see "busy" Sydney.
Then again, we're at the far end of the globe.

I'll have moved to the States by then. Otherwise I could have lent you a balcony and a pair of binoculars.

There are a couple of sites on LHR spotting. Google away.

In London, don't miss the London Eye, another BA attraction. A fantastic experience.

Six in line is not an unusual scenario at ATL either.

I have seen at least six, occasionally 9 or 10 much longer and they disappear into the haze, in line for each landing runway, 26L and 27R, many a time.

You think your airports are boring? Come to INN!  Laugh out loud

On weekdays we don't have more than 10 (!!) scheduled flights... on weekends maybe around 20.

regards, Florian

Phollingsworth-

Very true. If you're coming from the west, the turn to final for 26L and 27R is out near Stone Mountain. I have at times seen two in the base leg, 6 or more on final and several on downwind.

Spotterboy-
But you can't really complain about INN. I've seen some of the photos from there...just amazing. Try coming to GFK, same trafic as you (prob less), but its flat as hell.

To be honest, sometimes when I am driving out of MUC at night, I can see more than just 6 aircraft coming in. They're all perfectly lined up with their landing lights perfeclty visible. They may not be all on final, but still... (Greetings to the directors in MUC, if one of them reads this!)
I would have expected more than 6 at an airport like LHR  Smile
But LHR has disappointed me in the past anyway. I always hope to get into some nice holding pattern before our clearance for finals into LHR, but that was NEVER the case... Wether I'm on the wrong planes or arrive at the wrong times  Smile

Why is 10 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9.

I should be around in the UK late June early July ( for the football really)- tentatively planning to depart on 7 July. Id love to come on down to LHR one of those days for a meet and spot sort of thing!

Will probably be floating around near EMA as well, but we shall see.
