Ok...for those that live in the Indy area or midwest and have heard about the new midfield terminal being built; Couple of questions: 1) The planned opening date was 7/7/07...but now that date is looking more like 2008-When do you think it will actually open? 2)what are the plans for the old terminal once the new one is open?

This is one thing that I am quite curious about as well because IND is my primary airport. The website is lacking in information, and there don't seem to be all that much info out there about this expansion. All I have heard about is the whole expansion of the cargo area so fedex can have its hub.

Also I want to know how they expect to complete the project with only 974$ million. They are doing a lot of work, including moving I-70 and creating the terminal, so I am doubtful that the terminal will be complete this decade.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

First, what kind of moron zips up single jpgs? They saved 5% of download time just to me off!

Now, on to the terminal. While I applaud them for cutting down taxi times at one airport that surely needed it, I wonder if there is going to be sufficient gate space to handle everyone who needs it. There didn't seem to be too many gates on those 2 concourses.

There is going to be room for expansion if needed. It is not economically feasible right now.

It is certainly a nice looking facility, but the question is does Indy really need a brand new 1 billion dollar terminal?

Whenever it is, it will be a joy.

At least one airport has their act together.

THey do need the new terminal. There is no room for expansion in the current terminal. I used to take day trips to chicago and the taxiing after landing (if you land toward the west-Hendricks county) seems just as long as the actual flight itself. The terminal is simply outdated. Plus, the airport access roads are always congested. It will be much nicer accessing the airport from I-70 instead of 465.

Update: I just heard on the radio that the control tower is ahead of schedule to be completed at the new IND and the relocation of I-70 is also moving very nicely. Once the tower is done, they can begin the construction of the actual terminal!  Smile although it is a shame since i will be relocating to Seattle by the end of this year..
