1 Jul: Air France to start daily service to New Orleans Moisant International Airport

Today Air France announces new daily service to New Orleans Moisant International Airport utilizing 777-200ER equipment. Air France, a member of Skyteam, will be the only European airline to serve New Orleans. The city of New Orleans, a unique city with important connections to France and French culture, has shown tremendous growth over the past several years. Located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, New Orleans is an important business location for the transportation industry, as well as the telecommunications and technology sector.

"Air France has long desired a route to New Orleans because of its historical and economic links to the nation of France," said Air France Chairman Jean-Cyril Spinetta. "The fact that the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce was able to offer the airline numerous incentives for beginning this flight only made it that much more of a possibility." "Delta was very successful in its one stop flight from New Orleans to Paris before the attacks of September 11, and they were a major force behind our goal of linking two centers of French culture," said Christopher Korenke, vice president and general manager of Air France USA.

In a statement made by the New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce Interim President and CEO Barbara K. Johnson said, "We are absolutely thrilled that Air France will be serving the population of New Orleans and the Southeastern Lousiana. Not only will New Orleans gain a direct link to a great cultural and business center of Europe, but Parisians will now gain a direct link to a great cultural and business center of America."

Air France 042 will depart Paris Charles De Gaulle/Roissy Airport at 10:30AM and arrive at New Orleans Moisant International Airport at 1:05PM. The return flight, Air France 045, will depart New Orleans Moisant International Airport at 4:00PM and arrive the next morning in Paris CDG at 9:20AM. The two Air France flights will carry Delta codeshare flight numbers 8318 and 8317, respectively.

Air France is a major global airline with service to more than 238 cities in 91 countries. The airline flies from 12 gateways in the United States and provides service from an additional 97 cities through its code-share agreements with SkyTeam partner, Delta Air Lines.

I guess that trumps the 1-stop no-change-of-plane service that was announced early this morning.  Big grin Props to us.....I guess.

Jcs,

AF 044 can not be a flight XXX-CDG, as AF flight numbers TO CDG are always odd numbers...  Wink/being sarcastic

I think this is an April Fools joke. No announcement on AF web site, no date specified in the "press release" used to begin the post.
