I just read a report that SQ will be starting service to Ahmedabad. Is this really true? I don't get why SQ would start 772 service to AMD. If anything they should fly 772 flights to HYD and have Silk Air fly there A320's to AMD.

It sure is no April Fool's joke.

The flight (SQ462) will depart SIN every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday - this has already been reported in travel industry publications.

SIA and SilkAir probably decides on who should operate a route based on the longer term potential of that destination.

At this point in time it looks as if SQ will operate it.

Singapore initially asked for 3x weekly MI flights to AMD, but I guess there were concerns about the A320 having enough legs to run the flight. Hence it will launch as a 3x weekly 772 from July 28.

Flight times will be very strange though because AMD does not have capacity to handle multiple international arrivals simultaneously, and AI/IC have the prime slots wrapped up around midnight.

SQ 462/461 SIN d0200 AMD a0445 d0600 SIN a1400

Also in case anybody missed it, SQ 421 (daylight BOM flight) is going up from 3x weekly to 5x weekly 772s, SQ 416 (CCU flight) is going up from 2x weekly to 3x weekly 772s and SQ 410 (MAA flight) will be upgraded from 772 to 744 on Fri/Sat.

Thanks for the informationa Sean. I fly the SIN-MAA route more ofthen and have always loved flying on the 744. I flew with a 772 one time on the route & felt too cramped in there.

Does Air India or Indian Airlines offer non-stop services to Singapore at the moment?

Indian Airlines operates daily non stops between Chennai(MAA) and SIN. It has non stops on BLR-SIN too. Air India has non stop flights on BOM-SIN sector.

Sean would be able to give the details....

cheers!!

Thanks, Sean. I was wondering why the flight schedule showed such strange times when I read the press release this morning.

However, do you think that SQ will benefit a lot since no other foreign carrier has opened a route to AMD? It certainly is less crowded a market than say BLR and HYD.

On a separate note, I wonder if SQ will base some crew there. I know that for flight of up to 4 hours, they have the same crew return to SIN with the a/c (as in CCU, DAC, MAA, MLE, CMB).

Tons, I have travelled often with AI to SIN... AI noinstop from DEL, BLR, HYD, MAA (BOM in my memory NOT), as far as I know, IC from MAA... sure more sestinatioina, but Internet here at present to slow to research

SIN seems to be a very important and profit making market for AI... how are load-factors? With me, they were always quite good...
