I just wanted to check something...
Reading all these topics on paint schemes, I noticed that AA never shows up as a favorite. What do y'all think of it? As I have written before, I love American's exterior. The polished aluminum is the only design that does justice to the natural, inherent beauty of the aircraft. It lets you see the intricacies of the airframe, and it really glistens in the sun! While I don't think USAir made a mistake in redoing their paint scheme, I do think it was a mistake to switch from polished aluminum to fully painted. Does ANYBODY else appreciate the beauty of the aircraft itself more than that of the paint applied to it???

Mike-you describe the paint scheme (or lack thereof) very nicely. I have to disagree with you, however. It looks old--very old. DL's is very nice, with paint on the top and the polished metal on the bottom, and that is what I wish AA would do. Looking at their new 777's though, the polished alum. does look VERY nice when it is gleaming, but give it a little while, and the 777's will look like AA's 727's.

Yea, the scheme is OK, but anyone seen that retro 757
w/ the 40th anniversary of jet flight paint. Wow, they
need to paint all 500 planes that way - it's awesome!!
BTW- What was UsAir thinkin' . I think they needed an
image change after all those crashes.

Ok. USairways, being one of the worst (in my OPPINION!, NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE) US aircarriers in my eyes (with all the crashes) should have changed. It seemed that they took NO CARE what-so-ever of there aircraft. American takes care, and keeps t clean and polished. in quite a few cases, AND PICTURES THAT I HAVE, Usair planes are grey, not shiney, or ever black! Its grose, so it made some poeple scared. Like behind the engine in the DC-9 I was abput to fly looked burnt. So I switched to UAL!!! =)

The American paint scheme, old as it is, does not look old. The 727's still gleam, due largely to the fact that AA cleans and polishes their planes on a regular basis. DL desperately needed their change, because the planes looked old and dingy, and the new scheme they chose is not much better. I'm glad to hear, however, that there are others who appreciate the polished metal look. Thanks.

I absolutely like American's current scheme, they don't have to change it. I must say that they take good care of their aircrafts, the aluminium skin is always shining even on their two oldest types: the 727 and DC-10. The 727's look younger than they actually are!
I love bare metal schemes in the sun.
