Does anyone know why the MD-80 is called the "Mad Dog?" I did not find any information about this topic in the search feature. Thanks.

I have heard the AA Super 80s also called the SuperTube and the SuperSlug.
The Super Slug because they fly at a slower Mach than other commercial aircraft.

MD-80s are known for there fun performance on takeoffs- high AOA sometimes. That's why I call it the Mad Dog. Also, on finals into Washington-National, they can do some pretty entertaining stuff, I laugh sometimes at the quick throttle ups and downs...
