With SQ having such a superior inflight product, you expect a reletively superior livery too huh???
I personally think the SQ livery looks outdated. What do you think?
What do you think the SQ should look like?

Go Nuts

Yo Aerohottie

The SQ livery is amazing - it's unique and blends 2 great colors together. I'm glad SQ isn't following the hip trend of airlines to change their liveries. I'd actually say SQ is one of my favorite liveries around. And besides, a different livery wouldn't make people fly SQ more or less than before, right?

If they are still making a profit and making customers happy I do not see a need for a change. I like the SQ and TG livery, they are the best around.

Livery is branding. A change in livery is a change in branding. SQ's brand & product is arguably the best in the entire airline industry... they won't be changing livery anytime soon....

This present livery is an altered one from the past.

This branding has endured with SQ since its formation and is renowned for its excellence in service and product. Changing would otherwise jepordize the image that customers can already readily identify with.

Who knows? They might have another alteration of their present livery in the books?

In my opinion, from an artistic point of view - yes, it needs to be changed. It looks staid.

From a marketing / advertising point of view - no. The signifier of this branding is too strong to be altered.

I totally agree with you 100%!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I wouldn't want to see Singapore Airlines change their livery at all!

Singapore Airlines Limited - A Member of Star Alliance - in association with Airbus Industrie are designing a new livery to adorn the world's first commerically operated A380-800 due to commence flights in Q1 2006.

Hopefully they'll keep the SIA Birdy.

Yep, I guess they need an update, prefer a more modern "bird logo" but they have to keep their current colors
And please update FA dress too, its classic but becomes short to boring nowadays, although everybody seem to like them, I much prefer CX/TG even GA) the SQ smile has become scary to me.

I thought it was well known that a new livery was being designed with Airbus? I can't remember where I got it from though.

Well, I´m very sorry, but to me the SQ livery is like the AA or the AF liveries. Time goes by and they still look fresh and classy!!!

Tough question - the SQ livery is a classic and SQ has an excellent reputation world wide, so changing the livery is a very difficult decision.

I think that the SQ livery is beginning to look a little old fashioned....in a strange way, its makes the very young SQ fleet look older than it is. The SINGAPORE AIRLINES lettering and logo are classics, maybe its time to just rethink the striping on the aircraft and go for something a bit more modern?

Will an updated look be introduced with the A380s? There have been no reports on this, but it would seem like a good point in time to make a change.

As Ryanair said, the current livery is not that old, and I find it's still very classy. I think the current livery was introduced around 1989.

One can clearly see the old one was just plain yellow and blue while the current one is gold and blue with a touch of orange, and a new font.

I believe SQ is one of the few airlines that DOES NOT need an "updated" livery - it's perfect the way it is...

The question is...DOES AA need a livery update? I don't know about anyone else but that gray plane is kind of boring and has been *lol*

I like the SIA livery too but why the grey engines?
It would be much nicer with white, gold or darkblue...don't you agree?

Little bit of unrelated info:

Along with Singapore Airlines getting a new livery for the A380, Qantas is getting a new one too.

I am not surprised that SQ might introduce a "special" livery for the A380. Just like when they introduced the 777 Jubilee, which coincided with the airlines 50th Anniversary. But with that said, the golden stripes were painted on all the aircraft (744, 777, A340) except the A310.

Who knows what they will paint on the A380?

Some clarifications: the current livery was introduced in 1987 as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations.

There was talk of a special livery for the first A380, but it may not happen because of superstition surrounding specialy liveries since the SQ6 incident.

Hmm... Pressure for the pilot to be flying an aircraft with special livery?

Regarding the Qantas livery thing.

It was a while ago, announced as the A380 was ordered. I've heard it from a number of people here and have read it in various places. Can't remember where exactly. I'll track something down and get back to you guys but am certain I didn't imagine it.

Since the new liveries for Singapore and QANTAS seem to only be being mentioned in connection with the A380 is it possible that they are just modifications of the existing schemes for this particular aircraft to allow for the two full rows of windows or something like that?

I have my doubts that SQ will introduce a new livery for the A380--the current livery still looks good on the A380.  Smile

Besides, SQ is like AA--why change the livery for changes sake?
