I remember reading about the post regarding DL painting a plane in Retro colors. Any idea when we can expect to see this 'craft? And any other details about it?

Thanks,

There is a photo in the current employee magazine in regards to the 767.
The plane is silver with a the DC3 stripes and lettering. The tail has a large 75th anniversary logo minus the word Delta. Below the stripe just behind the 1L door is the 75th logo again with the word Delta. The engines are silver as well with the classic Delta Air Lines logo circa 1950.

Doesn't give an exact date. Most events occur in June, however it could be anytime between April 23rd and June 18th.

Remember this - Delta was the first carrier to carry 100 million pax. Even though 9/11 had a huge impact, they still have managed to keep their numbers above that milestone. AMR only surpassed DL in pax because of the TW acquisition.

Hopefully, things will continue to rebound. We just need to plead with DALPA to give a little more to make their compensation in line with the rest of the industry. Then the widget will proudly fly again....

I am very happy to see that their results are improving. This is my all time favorite American airline and especially their far in advance seat-reservation is very reliable! The one thing I really miss is my beloved L1011-TriStar!
My dream is to see them fly one day out of my home-airport! I think a DUS-ATL service will prove quiete succsessfull providing our runway will be extended to use any aircraft without weight restrictions!

Delta - keep on flying!

This may be a rookie question, but do those numbers include Delta Connection flights as well? I imagine they do. I too would like to see that 767, but Delta does not fly the 76' to IND.

Hey Travelagent,

...you just made it on to my Respected Users list!

What nice and kind words to say about Delta and the L1011... that alone was enough to put you on the list!!!  Wink/being sarcastic

DL is also my all-time favorite American carrier!!! And I just loved the L1011 and I truly miss her!

In fact I had my first flight ever on a DL L1011 going from FRA to ATL!

And yes, how cool would it be to see DL adding service to DL), Germany">DUS! But due to SkyTeam it will probably never happen!

I wish Delta nothing but the best and support them by flying ONLY them whenever I´m going full-fare! What a great airline!!!

Best regards,

L1011Lover

Travelagent and L1011lover-

Thanks for the kind words, we're working hard to keep customers like you!

Tiger119, I think ASA, Comair, Skywest etc. have to have their own numbers, they operate somewhat independently of Delta, Skywest is its own airline.

I have the same wistful, nostalgic feelings for the L1011, I have flown her many times, mainly between ATL and SFO. What an amazing machine, way ahead of her time when she was conceived.

As with the rest of you, I would love to know what the plans for the retro planes are. I live in Columbia (CAE), and if either of those planes is headed this way, I would appreciate any kind of advance notice if any of you are in the know.

I wish you all the best at DL.

I believe that right now she is in the paint shop and will come out round the 17th or so. Not sure though. I'll have to ask a friend that works in Tech-Ops and get back to yall on that. Cant wait to see her as well. There is another thread about the Spirit in Retro colors. She is going to look great.

Here is the link for that other thread.

Thanks for all the kind words about Delta. She is truly a Special aircraft. And the L1011 was indeed a very special airplane for Delta. The L1011 help shape delta into the world leading airline that it is today.

Love to see the DL 1011 memories. My dad was a contracts administrator with Lockheed for many years, and did a lot of the legwork on Lockheed's behalf with selling DL their 1011's.

When I left for college (ERAU) in 1981, he took one of Lockheed's DL 1011 color file photos, had it blown up, and mounted a clock on it. When I look now straight out from my desk to the opposite wall, I'm staring right at it. The 1011 put food on our table for many years.

I'll be interested to see the retro 767.

Which was less than what DL had actually given guidance for. Oh, and for at least the last 3 months of 2003 DL carried more passengers than any other airline. Looking a little deeper into DL's numbers there costs are improving, with respect to their revenue; however, the have to get their personnel costs down (pilots account for the largest share of this).

The first flight I remember taking (age 3) was on a Delta L1011 ATL-MCO. That was my favorite plaine, God rest their souls.

Concerning a retro jet, I would like to see DL's flagship--the 777-- painted in the widget scheme. How cool would that be. Probably not retro enough, but it sure would develop a following of spotters around the world!

Av8rdal,

That would be lovely. Here's to hoping and praying for a widget 777. But oh how we can wish and wish and wish. I just hope that Delta keeps the widget ships that they still have. A Delta 767 dressed in the old Delta Widget is truly a great sight, Nothing looks better on a 767 or any other aircraft for that matter.

the new Retro Livery will truly be original and beautiful. I cant wait to see the Spirit done up in it. Maybe someone can find the picture that was in the Delta News Digest and post it somewhere for everyone to see.

This is excellent news for delta, ever since I was a little kid I have been a fan of Delta airlines because no other airline has given me the opportunities as delta as (i.e. allowing me to roam about at world headquarters during summer ace camp, free sim rides and a nice long visit to tech ops and many memorable chats with pilots) I for one hope they pull through and survive so one day I might be one of their pilots, if I retire from the airforce that is.....

Good to see! Can't wait to see the retro 767...I'll be in ATL on the 17th- maybe I'll end up seeing it while I'm there.

Adding to the L-1011 stories, Delta's L10s (the only ones I was ever on) were a thrill to fly for me, usually because it meant we were going to Puerto Rico. I remember the low growl of the engines when they started & were throttled up...flying on one was sorta like meeting a celebrity when I was younger because of how excited I would get to go on one. I got to go to the lower galley once & thought that was awesome- an elevator on a plane. Got to take 8 over the years, but it could've been 10:

We were supposed to go to Florida in July 2001. I knew that DL was parking them at the end of the month & tried to get into MCO with Delta. There was availability & we were going to take two L10s....one ATL-MCO, the other would be on the last DL L10 flight. I was in heaven until we called to confirm the reservation & the agent told us that they were being pulled on the 17th. My mom changed the reservations to US & when we got to MCO on the 24th (I think) & were leaving, I saw one parked at DL's airside. Needless to say, I was pissed beyond belief, ready to explode & felt like I'd been robbed.

We left Florida on 7/31 & it sucked to know that I was at the same airport where a few hours later, my favorite plane would take one last revenue flight for my favorite airline...

I have such wonderful memories of flying those Delta Tristars between ATL and MCO when I as in grade school. That was from the old ATL airport. I still remember the "sticky-tab" charts they used for boarding passes and the sattelite boarding facilities. Those were great days. Delta is really an awesome carrier and I hope things can turn around for them.
