Have never flown LH either. Is there service anything special?

There F class seats do look nice from the pics Ive seen here and apparently some flights have live internet access I've heard.

Though is it true that LH doesn't offer PTVs in Economy?

Not yet...but imminently. LH is to launch the Internet broadband service this month.

The service is generic, nothing to brag about but also nothing to complain about. If you fly first, I'm sure you'll be fine. And you are right, there weren't any PTVs on my flights (B747), but it might have changed from when I flew LH

My parents flew on LH from Frankfurt to Vancouver last October, and they flew in Buisness class. They said that it was some of the best service that they have ever had. They say that it is very comparable to Air Canada's executive class or better.

LH's strong point is not so much fancy inflight service gadgets (at least not in domestic or continental Economy), so don't expect too much in this regard. They are, however, very punctual, run a very streamlined operation and their aircraft are very clean and well kept.
In case something goes wrong with one of your flights, they don't let you sit alone in the rain, but rather sort out these problems for you and take care that you will reach your destination with the least amount of disruption.

I take about 14 LH flights a year in economy Intra Europe,(my company can't afford business class) Generally it's ok , legroom ok, leather seats a bit slippery, food for a 2hr 45min flight good, 1hr 30 flight sandwich sucks. Cabin crew usually nice at least the younger ones are.Usually on time and efficient.
Long haul LH is complete crap, Business class is good ,First no idea will never afford it. Frequent flyer programs not too bad .

ENJOY!!!!

TriStar: Well common courtesy is the bare minimum I would expect from any airline. Its the gadgets on board that sets one airline apart from the other.

Always thought that an airline that offered live internet access onboard would be big on gadgetry though...

I have flown LH a number of times on my trips to Europe and plan on flying LH on future trips to Europe.
I flew LH in 1999 from Singapore-Frankfurt-Oporto. In 2002 San Francisco-Frankfurt-Charles de Gaulle-Oporto-Hong Kong. Every time I have flown LH I have always felt safe & other than not having the best IFE I found that LH have a pretty good service.
That's my experience with LH.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The more you travel with certain, especially southern European airlines, the more you start to realize that this is obviously not the case. I have had my share of bad experiences with some airlines whose names I will not mention, because certain people will step in and flame me, so I just say that "reliability" and "streamlined operations" is indeed a strong point of LH.

It becomes vitally important if you travel them on business trips, where every delay or missed connection has severe consequences on your schedule. If you are an event flyer with time to spare and the desire for fancy frills, then you are indeed better off choosing another airline.

BTW - I only take LH when it is absolutely necessary, i.e. on business trips or on routes where there is no competition, so please do not categorize me as a Lufthansa cheerleader.  Smile

TriStar you never seem to give up to convince people...NOT to read one of those thousands of threads covering LH's PTV  Big grin Big grin

LH is a business flyer's prime choice because:

1. They are UNMATCHED in reliability, that's a fact!

2. In cases of disruption, they'll do everything there is to do (alos UNMATCHED!!) to get you back to 1.

For event flyers, they are average, so do your own choice!

Still their aircraft are in comparison immaculately clean, if that counts for something...and they don't fly DC-9s  Big grin Big grin

Hi Andreas,

The ususal suspects meet again. Big grin

You know, during all these discussions, when I am defending the business decisions of a certain German carrier I am personally not too fond of I have learned that one has to differentiate between the a.net event flyer, and the aviation professional.

This is not meant as bashing certain forum users, it just means that some people care more about fancy frills on their flights and not so much about the financial or operational side of the airline, like e.g. I do. Which is fine, why should everybody have to take an interest in the economic well-being of an airline when all that he/ she wants is a good time in front of a PTV on their once-yearly flight with LH.  Smile

That's true. On domestic flights within Germany and intra-European flights up to 110 minutes the Economy pax will have the choice of Coffee, Tea or water. Even if you want to pay for a beer you won't get one because they won't cater it.

I've only flown LH once on Business class from YVR-FRA and then FRA-GVA. The Service was excellent as so was the food. I had an all around great flight!

Im schedualed to fly on their new A346 FRA-YVR and back this summer in economy so we shall see what that'll be like.

Cheers,

I flew LH very often - till 1999. Then i tried to change to other, cheaper, airlines.
Lufthansa's maintenance is 1st class and that counts! 1st class for First, Business AND economy  Wink/being sarcastic
Service in Eco got standard cause other airlines started worse service (f.e. most of US airlines) - but LH still has good service and can compare with most of European, African and American companies.

I flew on LH a few times. Correct me if I'm wrong. The inter-European destinations don't have economy seats. It's all business class. Leather, legroom, nice. But they call it economy. And the price is just like economy.
Aircadet, what do you mean by slippery leather......geeeez, you are getting picky.

Have never flown LH but I must say that not having PTVs in economy class is a pretty big deal on long international flights considering that every other major offers them (except for EI it seems)

I must admit that it's nothing special, what you buy is what you get. It depends on where you fly, if you fly to Asia, I would strongly recommend the Asian carriers, i.e. CX  Big thumbs up

YES, they don't offer PTV in Y-class

I flew LH in 2003 from Bangkok to Frankfurt and then a few European flights. The European flights although adequate level of product and service for the flight time left alot to be desired. The International flight i found to be dull in most aspects particularly service and product. No PTV's being a major factor. In an age when airlines are competing in the arena and adding AVOD and Internet access in Y, Lufthansa is not even in the process of installing the screens. Overall LH is a very average airline.

They do not.

Bring a book and a CD player. Not the end of the world. The only really irritating thing about it is having to wait until the end of the movie to find out where you are on the Airshow.

As was said earlier....sometimes good, sometimes bad...but very business like in operations. I was underwhelmed several times in First and business classes, and handling of passengers in loading. I have had my absolute worst occassion of flying when a ticket rep in Frankfurt told me (rude ws an understatement) I would miss my connection to YYZ because he refused to press the computer keys to kick out a boarding pass as he was too busy. This while an AC rep and Luf rep had walked me to him from my incoming flight (I was on a J class ticket) and said they would walk me to the gate- no problem to them they said as there was still 20 minutes before departure. I missed the YYZ flight....

Getting from A to B. Efficient. For the soft side of things. Nothing exciting.

there is economy class, business class, first class...then Concorde..pure class

Concerning LH's service of alcohol, I've got a question.

Recently, U.S. carriers (AA, DL, prolly others) have stopped serving complimentary alcoholic drinks on international flights in order to cut costs. You must pay for them now, as on domestic flights. Does LH still serve complimentary booze and beer on long transatlantic flights? I'd hate to have to shell out $4 per beer to start my trip to Munich off appropriately.

Maintain thine airspeed, lest the Earth rise up and smite thee.
