G'day

I am flying from AKL to BRI on May 27 (QF26) in J and was wondering if I will get on a plane with the new skybed. I know it's a 747-400 but don't know the rego.

Thanks!

Hello Thaigold

The answer is almost 100% NO - QF are not flying any Skybed 747-400s on the AUS/LAX routes yet and when they do it will be LAX/SYD then LAX/MEL and LAX/BNE Nonstop - not the flight LAX/AKL/BNE.

You will however get a 747-400 that now has two classes, the first cabin is gone and replaced with J Class seats and then normal Economy

Go to http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/our_aircraft

click on 747-400 Longreach and choose the two class aircraft for a seat map

Happy flying on QF

I would have to say that you have 1 in 8 chance on getting a B744 with the new 'Skybed'!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

That's my 0.02c!

Aircraft currently operating with the new 'Skybed' as follows; VH-OJL, OJM, OJN, OJO, OJQ, OJR, OJS and OJT.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

As Industrybuff said this route is flown by a 2 class 744 which will be the last 744's to be refitted with Skybed's, although from time to time a 3 class aircraft appears it will likely not have Skybeds as Skybed aircraft are almost exclusivly used on LHR and HKG flights at the moment.

Also Industrybuff LAX-BNE will be a 2 class service when it starts non-stop!

I would have to say that you have 1 in 8 chance on getting a B744 with the new 'Skybed'!

How do you work that out when they have 30 744's, what about the other 22?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I would say 1 in 30 or 22 if you fon't count the 2 class aircraft.

Thanks for your replies guys - I will keep my fingers crossed but expect the normal J class (which is pretty good anyway)....

I'm aware Qantas have 30 B744 aircraft BUT I was referring to the aircraft fitted with the new 'Skybed'.
That's where I got 1 in 8 chance!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Still doesn't make sense.

Anyway the reality is skybed won't be on this route.

This service is supposed to be operated by a 2 class 744 so you would need to get an aircraft sub for it to be 3 class and I would think that it would be subbed with a non-skybed 3 class.

QF 3 class 744's will soon all have 1 configuration! 14P 50J and 315Y total 379

Before they were
Pacific 14P 79J 265Y total 362
Kangaroo 14P 65J 315Y total 394

So all aircraft have all lost some J seats!

2 class aircraft are however 66J 366Y so have a larger J class but fly routes where first class is not needed.

743's are 52J 398Y once reconfigured.

that's kind of what i was thinking.... must say getting a staff travel upgrade to J really will become impossible on many routes!

 Sad
