I was just wondering if anyone knows what terminal 3's function will be after the new YYZ T1 is all finished a few years from now. Domestic? Charters? WestJet and Jetsgo? Transborder?

New T1 will be an ongoing 15 year project that will also replace T2 and handle all future growth.

My understanding is that T3 will be connected/linked to New T1 in due course, after which T3 will be demolished at some stage and rebullt in the architecture and style of T1.

T3 is currently at capacity although Westjet will migrate to freed up space in T2 this month. I'm not aware of any further planned airlines relos from T3 to new T1 as it expands.....although there will be many no doubt.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

When did T3 open? Surely it's only been 15 years or less, correct?

I don't fly all that much, but I've always found T3 to be pretty modern, spacious, etc. Hearing talk of it needing to be torn down just seems, to me, quite frankly ridiculous. so how old is it, and what could possibly be the rationale for tearing it down so young?

(Incidentally, how old is T2? I'm guessing it's from the mid-to-late seventies.)

Next flight.... who knows.

Feb 1991.

I agree....I like T3 myself.

The tearing down of T3 will be the FINAL phase of New T1.....not until around 2015 or later.

Incidentally, how old is T2?

It opened in 1972. It was initially used for ad hoc charters etc. AC moved in en masse from T1 within a year of it opening. The original T2 was much smaller than the current T2....it has been expanded particularly at the now-US flight end.

THe only link between T1 and T3 will be via the APM, there will be no connection of the two buildings with a concourse...That was the original plan, but T1 has been re-designed since then. T3 is currently finishing the first phase of its re-construction, Pier C has been pretty much re-constructed with a new hammer head, and new gates along its south side. Re-development of the building will continue with construction on the main processor to the south of Pier C which should add a gate or two and a new screening area, as well as offices. Not sure if there are plans to re-develop Pier B and the Alpha building, but I would image there are. T3 isn't going anywhere for a long while, its only 13 years old, and it has a lot of years left. It iwll likely cater to the charters, and jetsgo/canjet, I dotn think that the one world alliance has any plans of moving out either.
