I just heard, but while details are sketchy at this point, apparently a fire has caused evacuation of the ticketing/check-in areas and presumably the baggage claim area as well at the Lindbergh Terminal...this might cause some delays. It's under control now, thankfully. Anyone have any more specific details?!?

Thanks for the information Mikey711MN. The video from KSTP is long but gives a lot of information. Anyone been down to the baggage claim today?

Yup, just got back. Looks like the belt going from the curbside check-in to the baggage area is quite charred. The smell of smoke is everywhere around Checkpoint 6. All is over now, and no injuries, but I'm sure some bags are damaged. They were about to re-open some NW ticket counters when I left.

Any news on possible delays? I'm supposed to be flying to MSP on NWA in about 2 hours. I've checked the NWA website, and it doesn't say anything, so I'm hoping they've got everything back on track.
Thanks,

Nope, just a handful of delays. Everything back to normal.

I was out at the airport today so I went down to the baggage claim level today to see if there was any sign of the fire still. Door 6 is blocked off (right by the Starbucks down there) and there was one other very small area blocked off with tape. Other than that there are few signs of the fire. Ironically there is a statue commemorating fire fighters right at door 6.

The Star Tribune had a good article (Fire at airport brings some delays -- April 9th, 2004) in the paper this morning summarizing the fire. They describe the flames as actually being quite big in the beginning. Looks like there hasn't been much damage, however.

So this means there has been TWO fires at MSP within a week...damn. How come all of this happens the week after I quit Mesaba. It's not fair!

911, where is your emergency?
