AS Flights 5 And 6. . . Changes

Those who have flown AS 5 or 6 between Washington-Dulles and Seattle are in for a surprise. Those flight numbers has been assigned to the new DCA-LAX flights that begin June 7th.

Actually that's only half the news. Over at http://www.alaskaair.com, the airline is advertising DCA-LAX fares of $89 each way between June 7th and June 30th. So if you live in L.A. and want to visit Washington DC, look up the web site. Do the same if you live in DC and want to visit L.A.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I'm guessing the crews for these flights will be based in Los Angeles rather than either Seattle or Washington DC. If anyone at AS knows for sure, please chime in.

AS does not have a base in DCA. There f/a bases are SEA, LAX, PDX & ANC.

I also believe that AA does ground services for AS in DCA.

I don't think AA.

Alaska shares gate 6 in Concourse A with ATA and Spirit Airlines. Gate 6 is between Midwest Express and Northwest and is diametrically opposite AirTran. On the other hand, American's considerable presence is in Concourse C -- in another part of the airport somewhat distant from Concourse A.

Therefore, I suspect (but don't know) ground service is being contracted either by Midwest Express or Northwest.

The ground handler is Swissport.

That may very well be.

However, the reason I'd scratch my head and continue to wonder is that Swissport is based here at Washington-Dulles. Washington-Dulles and Washington-National are 30 miles apart, and as far as I know, Swissport does no other groundwork at Washington-National.

I'm about to leave work, so I guess the best way to find out is to drive down there and ask them.  Smile

I was wrong...it's Swissport in IAD and NWA in DCA.

Anyone know if AS will be offering the DigEplayers on the new LAX-DCA route?
Are they available on any flights out of LAX?

I'm guessing that since the flights will be LAX-DCA-LAX rather than DCA-LAX-DCA, and will thus be L.A. based rather than DC based, all the amenities available through LAX will be available through DCA. I've flown AS on IAD-SEA-IAD and digeplayers were available. However, I've also flown AS on SEA-YVR-SEA and on SEA-LGB-SEA, and they were not available. There is a FAQ page at http://www.digeplayer.com/faqs.php that might answer some of your questions. Note that to really get into the inner workings of that site or to even reserve a player unit, you will have to register.

The digeplayers will be offered on the LAX-DCA-LAX routing. Currently, they only available on the transcons including LAX-ANC-LAX, ANC-ORD-ANC, and soon to be SEA-ORD routings. We might be bringing them on our SEA-ANC routings this summer for the cruise season.

Sorry for the trip, but I wasn't motivated to go into work
6 hours early to find out...especially with the great weather
we are having in the northwest.
